Black Screen

Yesterday I suddenly got a black screen when I was browsing on my comp. I shut it off went to sleep and in the morning whenever I start up my computer it remains a black screen... The monitor button which shows the status is first orange, then green, then orange, then green and then it remains orange. Is this some kinda virus or something and if so how can I protect myself against it when I can't even open up anything. By the way I do hear the windows 'starting' sound. So can anyone help me out? Btw I'm on my moms laptop now.

Is the video cable loose? Or perhaps the cable's been fried due to some random short-circuit; you might want to try replacing the cable to see if it works.

hmm thanks for the reply. Yesterday night it worked fine for some reason. This morning it started flickering slowly between normal view and black screen. I fiddled a bit with the cables and now I get a white line in the middle with black screen and black screen alone alternately. So you're probably right on the cable. I'll ask my dad to buy a new one once he's back from his holiday and I'll post the results

Edit: Turns out my whole computer is busted somehow. We sent it to the computer store and they've have been taking a look at it for almost a week. Since they outclass me and my dad in technology stuff I'll leave it in their hands and hope it gets fixed soon. Thanks for your reply though. /end topic?
