DIR-615 releasing IP too often

Any way to fix it so that it happens less often? Like, once a month often? Imagine you'd be watching a stream or downloading something for 2 hours only to have to restart download cuz this bull happens.

Everytime I dc it's only briefly and when I check the logs I'd see this:

DHCPC Received SIGUSR2='DHCPC Release

followed by the procedure for release and then a

DHCPC Received SIGUSR1='DHCPC Renew

I've had the wireless router settings for the lease renew to renew once a month. But I don't really understand how this IP leasing system works so I'm wondering if this is a problem on my end despite the 1 month renew setting. I've also read that DIR-615 is pretty crappy due to dcing issues (hence why I wondered if the prob's on my end), so I'm ready to buy a new wireless router if need be. Any suggestions on how to fix this or am i condemned to spend for a new router?

Also, are you hardwired to your router, or are you connected wirelessly? If wireless, what kind of adapter is your PC using, and how far from the router are you?

Check your Router IP lease time. Should be on the same page as the ISP username and Password entries.

Torrent no. Stream yes.

Connected wirelessly. adapter is atheros AR028X, it has dcing issues due to driver issues and has been fixed for more than 2 years ago second week of purchase. My wireless router is only next door.

The lease times based on user settings are set to renew once a month. I've switched to a new router altogether (ASUS RT-N16), problem is persisting..

IP leasing basically says an IP address for ABC PC will be available for that PC when it connects during a time frame. Because your's is set once per month another PC might be trying to gain access to the router for connectivity but be using a static (preset) IP address instead of a Dynamic (randomized) IP address.

Try setting this for 24 hours and run it for about a few days and report back any problems.

I don't know what's going on - something is sending it to the networking daemon in your router?

You probably have an unauthorized user on your router.

However, small distributions of Linux are often used for routers so you could have a router running a tiny distro on it. DD-WRT uses this for supporting various routers.

Been a couple days since I tried ur suggestion. Still the dc'ing continues. =\

Edit: I forgot to mention, I set up the ASUS RT-N16 to run on Oleg's firmware 1639 ('cause the recent updated version had wireless issues apparently).
