Maple is full of these so called "PQs", but what exactly defines something as a PQ? What do you understand as a PQ? Nowadays we call everything a PQ, even though some really aren't, like Balrog boss. So what do you think?

A "PQ" is something that HAS to be fullfilled while being in a party or expedition group.

Party Quest. It's a quest for a party that can be done in a matter of minutes and is repeatable.

how can you say bpq isn't a pq. you have to be in a party in order to access it, therefore it is a party quest. anything that isn't accessible solo is a pq.

Yeah, basically anything where a Party is *required*. Dojo is not a PQ because you can do it alone. Balrog is because the only way to get in is by joining with other people. Problem is there are a lot of morons who think "PQ" is synonymous with "party" so they yell it out in the middle of towns or hunting grounds where there is no quest.

Level 30 Alien PQ says "Hi" lol
Also you could solo the stg 1 Zakum PQ as well. I guess you could say majority or 98% of all PQs requires a party of some sort.

Both require a party to get in though, even if you're by yourself

From the Vistor Event Guide/Discussion thread.

Anything that requires a party to get in, after talking to an NPC to get into an exclusive map.
That, and there must be no expedition for it. Expeditions = bosses, everything else is a pq.

This is like GQ getting called GPQ when you need no party to enter GQ at all. The only things needed really are 6 guild members, all of which could be in a separate party.

Here's a list of legitimate party quests in JMS
Henesys Party Quest
Kerning Party Quest
Ariant Colosseum
Monster Carnival (Season 2)
Ludibrium Party Quest
Elin Forest Party Quest
Orbis Party Quest
Ludibrium Maze Party Quest
Ghost Ship Party Quest
Davy Jones Party Quest
Magatia (Romeo and Juliet) Party Quest
Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest
Dragon Rider Party Quest
I'm sure some of these don't exist in GMS and PQs like Amoria doesn't exist in JMS, but you get the picture. Anything not in this list is not considered a party quest in JMS.
In short a party quest is deserted/abandoned minigames a quest requiring multiple players in a party. "Expedition" party quests are excluded because the primary purpose is to defeat a boss and is not a quest (Horntail has quests but you don't call is a Horntail party quest). Guild quest is technically a party quest but since it requires a guild, it's not considered a PQ. 4th job skills that req multiple people is also not considered PQs because they're not repeatable.

I think people misunderstood me a little...Im well aware of what a "traditional" PQ is, ludiPQ, Kerning, Orbis, etc etc. Im just wondering the opinion of people regarding more recent additions, like Pyramid Nett, Dojo, Balrog, etc.

I agree with this, yet some people here pointed out a PQ "requires a party to go in", as such all the things you mentioned classify as a PQ. See where I'm getting at? Theres no consensus

If you want to be technical, you can extract all NPC references to the "party quest" in question and see if they're actually mentioned as "party quests." Kerning and Ludibrium PQ is clearly referred to as "party quests" by in-game NPCs. I think that's the only "official" way to judge what's a party quest and what's not. Used to be easy telling them apart when there was only three PQs and Zakum.
I still think it's a good thing that there's PQs and some are branching outside of standard PQs (or boss runs). I was advocating for more PQs when Orbis PQ was deserted, like three years ago.
