I just dropped an eraser onto a fly.
If I was the fly, would I realize anything at all? Would it be painless, or just one instant of "osht, irdead"? Or would I stay conscious and writhe in anguish underneath the eraser, while I slowly get crushed/suffocated to death? And after reality fades away... what then?
One must wonder.
In case you wanna see it, for some reason (...):

Regardless of whether they feel pain or not, I don't care about symphathizing with them. It's pissing me off so it needs to die.

An insect's nervous system is nowhere near as complex as a human's or of any mammal's in that case.

:o Probably had to do with the fact that I uploaded it directly from my phone to Sprint, and then Tinyurl'd it without thinking when I found out Tinypic didn't support URL uploads. So it redirects to my phone account, which naturally only I can see
Reuploading it, though there isn't much to see. Crappy camera (pretty much all phones, by default) + crappy lighting = crappy pic.
@ Lylac and others... supposing the fly could think. Just a theoretical question, really.

Flies arent sentient, and even if they were... it would have been like being hit by a bomb, probably. Instant BAM.

I'm impressed that people think so... not outside the "box".
Check out a fly's reaction. Most of the times, it's just luck that we manage to hit them, right? By this, we can assume there's a chance that the view of time for a fly is completely different than the view of time for a human. With the insane reaction to notice danger, I'd assume that it has reactions around 20 times faster (?) than a human being. That is, 1 second for us is 20 seconds for the fly.
When this fly is getting hit, it can feel the pain like a human would do in "slow motion". It can slowly feel the hit of a human crushing their legs, wings, belly, and so forth..
Scary, eh.

Doesn't a fly like live for 3 days anyway? Survive for 3 days to mate and die anyways... what a terrible life... Since humans can't fly, it would be extremely weird to be crushed in the air (i can kill the tiny flys that buz around your head).
If i were to compare the insta-death experience to anything related to humans, it would be towards ANTS. then it would be like Humans getting squished by giant people like Godzilla 0_o

I'm going to assume that it doesn't feel it. Because the second the fly is hit, it pretty much dies instantaneously. Unless you're into torturing flies when you plan on getting rid of them o-o...

When your hitting the fly the impact and momentum of your swing will hurt the fly. But once it hits the floor and gets squashed the fly feels nothing and dies right away.

How can you prove that? Time is a relative expression that differs from every single being.

I have often thought this same thing about spiders when I kill them (I despise them for everything they are, it's mean I know but I don't care). In anycase what would go through that fly's mind when killed. Hmm, maybe the concept of "what the crap is happening" but I guess the world may never know... like with tootsiepops.

Say if you jump off a skyscraper. You die instantly once you hit the floor with impact ;o. (From what I've heard)

Um, what? It all depends on the amount of force and whatnot. Yes, the fly could have died from the impact of hitting a floor, but it could have died from the impact of being hit by the eraser.
This thread is weird. o_o

If we talk about contact with the ground, you'll not be instantly dead the second your hair is in contact with the ground nor your shoes.
What I mean is that the fly feels time "slower" than humans.
