Do Alcasters quest chain and buy em from him at 5k a pop. Can't get any easier.

The whole time I've played I never hunted magic rocks or did that silly insane quest. It's more worth your time to just find an FM store and buy some for 6-7k each, with a few hundred you will be set for quite a long time.

Also I forgot to mention that from 70-147 I have used less than 1k rocks, although you may party a tad more than I do/did.
