Maple through Linux

Is this possible nowadays through a VM of some sort?

I'm looking at getting a new computer, and of the programs I use, MapleStory is the only one without a direct Linux equivalent.

Not WINE compatible, and HackShield doesn't like to be virtualized. Linux is a no-go.

hmm. Maybe I'll leave this computer running XP & my 2nd monitor, instead of killing it. Synergy should handle KB/mouse between the two fine.

Works for me under VMware Player, but I haven't done any boss runs with my setup yet. We all know bossing (Zak/HT) stresses the system more, so I can't say it's 100% working. Anyway, as you'd expect, the performance is quite bad -- but I think it's still usable for training.

Changing the graphic setting in game (i.e., same thing that is recommended for Zak/HT for Windows Vista/7 users) might give a perf. boost as long as you don't change the channel/map. Also, setting the VM to use the full screen may also boost performance.

(Under VBox, I get a HackShield error after 5 min. or so. VBoxManage is really useful though; if you're using VMware Player and not Workstation, VBox is worth it just for that tool -- a cloned VDI/VMDK needs to have a different uuid. IIRC, cp doesn't change the uuid.)

I also renamed /usr/bin/vmnet-bridge because that process was screwing with the wireless connection to my router. (VMware version I'm using isn't from one of the openSUSE repos... maybe the build from there wouldn't have this problem.)

[/INDENT]If you dual boot or use a 2nd comp., then of course you get around the performance problem. But you'll end up using Windows a lot / more than you want to.

MPX or Multi-Pointer X (e.g., multi-keyboard/mouse -- you get two cursors) should be supported in xorg-server > 1.7. Just thought I'd mention it so you can plug in an old mouse/keyboard lying around and not have to bother with Synergy(this?) -- or I suppose you can use it in tandem.
