I'm curious, i've never experienced it before and yesterday I think someone attempted to d/c me. Is the common method to spam your chat with the pink spouse text? Because it seemed incredibly ineffective to me.. kinda like a annoying fly or bug flying around my head. I fail to see how this gets people disconnected unless their pc is idling or tabbed out. I was even running maple on my horrible laptop (512 RAM, the ORIGINAL Radeon Mobility graphics card, 20 GB harddrive, ect., ect.). I was just curious if other methods were used to d/c people and how to safeguard against them because the current one is excedingly ineffective. I experienced no lag and was able to continue training perfectly fine... I've probably experienced more spam from like 5 different conversations occuring in the BL chat.

I always thought dc hackers used whispers. In any case not all dc hacks are created equal. I've seen some that seemed to have little to no effect used on me, one that required two characters and some time before it dc'd me, and one that dc'd me within a second or two of starting, and that's just the whisper ones.
As for defending against it, higher-end computer + lower-end internet connection might be enough to keep almost anyone from dcing you the traditional way since it relies on overloading your computer and not actually some sort of connectivity lag. I've heard various things such as ccing or going to the cash shop makes the dc hacker dc themselves. I'm not sure about that, but going to cs/mts would stop someone from dcing you.

I think it was a whisper, I'm not sure though. I am married but the person attempting to d/c me was obviously not my spouse just a random d/c mule. The text sent all just appeared in the bright magenta spouse color. Oh, thanks for the CS tip I should have remembered to use that. I use to use it all the time to avoi he giant pole of death in CWK and stop myself from falling at LA.

Spouse Chat D/C hacking does exist, it's just much less used. It probably had no effect because they weren't spamming enough, perhaps.

The spouse chat is newer as far as dc hacks go. Nothing about it is special in any way other then its pink and the confusion factor for those getting dc'd as they sometimes think the hacker is more "powerful" then he actually is because he managed to marry them, but it has nothing to do with being a spouse it's just a different chat.
The biggest factor for not getting dcd seems to be his computer versus yours. Like hotshot I've been through it all. DC attempts that just made me laugh all the way up to having to shut down my comp because I couldn't get a response out of it after less then 2 seconds of spam. It may be something related to the program they use also but how much more advanced can sending packets get? I don't know.
As far as safeguarding goes, keeping a low profile is the best you can do. I wouldn't suggest trying to go to the cash shop in an attempt to dc them (does this even work?) because you'll just piss them off more and these guys are usuually very fickle. If it's disrupting your playing the only real way to fight back is to get on a different char til they lose interest in you.
