This isn't a funhouse topic. It's more suited for the Speakeasy. I was listening to the radio and heard someone talk about this. My mind was blown.
Anyway, does anybody here know that we actually say a certain word a lot. Remember when people got annoyed when people couldn't form a sentence without saying 'like'? Well, actually, as it turns out, we say this word just as much. In actuality this word is just like 'like', because it does not actually need to be in the sentence. When I first heard this I actually thought about what word it was, because the newscaster had not actually said it. In the end he told me to just think about it. And I might actually get it.
I did.
Do you know what the word is?
Answer:
I'm trying my best to avoid saying that word now >_<

I was expecting the word "do", cuz it doesn't do anything in most sentences. Know what I mean? Do you know what I mean?
I was let down.

"Do" is a verb. It has more use than "actually." lol

"Do" has two uses: A verb and a meaningless piece of crap we got from the Celts. Verb has use. Using Do to make something interrogative or negative doesn't serve any real purpose. English is one of few languages that do it too. :[

Hmm, not really. If you compare it to Japanese, します is more or less the equivalent of "do." Like, "how do you do that?" would be "どうしますか?" The only exception that English has with the word "do" that makes it kind of different from other languages is in sentences like, "do you know what this means?" In which case, it's just an additive verb to make the sentence full. "You know what this means?" doesn't make sense in all situations otherwise. lol

I love to use actually. Doesn't surprise me that much, at least in my case.

French: Know-you what this means?
Exactly what we do with Do.
"I know what this means" = "I do know what this means"
"Do-I know what this means?"
Not sure what you mean by "it doesn't make sense".

I knew what the word was. It was either "actually" or "yah know". I do door to door sales, and we practice our pitches in the office a few times a week. Getting those words out of are pitches is part of the practice.

Oh, God. I'd better not see you coming to my door!
As a sentence starter, what do you use instead of "actually?"

This. I'm not sure where they grew up at where "actually" was used as slang and thrown into random sentences to the point where it's comparable with "like".
In fact, I use "like" in the annoying fashion a lot. Language speech patterns come depend on your environment. Perhaps you heard this on a LOCAL station where the LOCALS in your area overuse "actually". I use usually use actually in sentences where it naturally fits, and most likely don't use it more than once every few paragraphs.
By the way, I couldn't figure it out on my are own.
↑ That's a phrase I use often. "By the way" is used in a lot in my daily language, and I'm not even sure where I got it from. Nobody in my family uses it, but I got it from somewhere.

"That was actually funny."
I hear this used a lot. I can't think of another instance though.
