Ok, I'll answer this then. H. P. Lovecraft was a famous writter born in the late 19th century. He wrote many famous horror stories such as "The Call of Cthulhu" and "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward". He was as well the "creator", if you will, of the necronomicon. Many currently famous horror writers have been influenced by his work as well.

You forget to mention his influence on just about everything else, from Dungeons and Dragons to Evil Dead to Shadow Hearts. The man singlehandedly(Is that even a real word?) redefined what the horror genre can and should be.
