It was only 40 years ago that Wisconsin senator Gaylord Nelson founded the very first Earth Day. Today we celebrate our planet and the strides we have made in protecting it, while also acknowledging the problems of the present and looking with hope for their solutions in the future. We are in the midst of a vast climate crisis that affects global temperatures, ocean currents, weather patterns, and subsequently plays a role in water, food, and land shortages for human beings. However, we can all work to change our destructive acts of the past and begin healing our only home. I invite everyone to view the video below, or others like it, to remember the global impact Live Earth had back on 7/7/07. Listen to the words of Melissa Etheridge's song, and ask yourself - are you awake?
