Diana Vickers
#1
Diana Mae Vickers (born 30 July 1991) is a British singer-songwriter, actress and model. Vickers initially rose to fame as a semi-finalist in the British television series The X Factor in 2008. Vickers is currently starring in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice as the leading role of Little Voice marking her West End stage debut to which she has received positive rave reviews for her performance including recognition from Broadway.

In 2009, one of her tracks (Jumping Into Rivers) was been leaked onto the internet, causing much speculation about whether that would be her first single or not. That was later denied later by Diana Vickers herself, saying that it was never intended for either the album or her debut single. Earlier this year, she announced that her first single would be "Once", composed by Cathy Dennis. Cathy Dennis has composed many top 10 hits, such as "I Kissed a Girl", "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", "About You Now", etc, etc. (More can be seen at her wikipedia page, here.)

Today, the first preview of her single was released to the public, and can be found here.

Pop Justice Wrote:We were fans of Diana throughout the 2008 X Factor run so it was something of a relief when, after all that, 'Once' turned out to be the sort of song you can point at and go "THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is not only a very good pop song but a very good song regardless of genre", which is in itself just as well because while it's obviously a big pop song 'Once' is more than just pop - a debut single that sounds odd and instantly familiar, fragile and bold at the same time.

As a Cathy Dennis composition it shares a certain something in the quality stakes with some of her other tunes without really sounding like any of them, and it's the opening shot in an album campaign that'll throw up further interesting surprises as it unfolds throughout 2010.

I created this thread to get your opinions of her. What do you think?

In the 5th week of the live shows, she suffered from a severe case of laryngitis, causing her to skip the 5th show and return the following week. For that reason, the vocal's are weak in the next few songs.

She split the X Factor viewers in half, either loving her or hating her. Simon Cowell branded her "marmite". What do YOU think?
(uh, sorry if threads for individual artists aren't allowed, I couldn't find the rules for the music section. Eek)
