Are you stuck on the 7200 rpm hard drive? The reason why most laptops use 4200 is for power saving reasons. Also, any preferences on graphics card maker, and/or processor maker? And screen size is also a good thing now.
Personally, the keys on Sony laptops are annoying to me :c\

Hmm, well with that resolution in that price range compared to what available on Newegg is a good deal.
Higher front side bus can provide a small boost in perfromance, while moe L2 cache will have more of an effect. As for buying the RAM and hard drive seperate from the laptop, you may be able to get a better deal on the hard drive, but the RAM can be iffy, and you will want to install it yourself (best buy was gonna charge me 60 bucks to unscrew 2 screws to put a new RAM stick in + the RAM price). One thing with the hard drive though, is reinstalling windows on it.

Its hard to say what kind of an increase. Its just a general rule of thumb with compueters that a higher cache is better, but theres other factors that can come into play as well.
