6 Degrees of Seperation

I was browsing the Interwebs and found this article about the 6 degrees of seperation. What do you guys think? Possible?

everytime i hear about this thing it's a different number.
one time it was 8 degrees, then it was 5, then it was 26, then it was 7 and so on.
i hope it gonna stay with this article.

anyways, statitically, its impossible IMO.
and im 2 degrees away from the head general of my country.

Ive always heard of it as 6. Its..intersting..

heh, actually read it in the print copy of the post the other day. It's a pretty intriguing concept, but their study indicated that it's more like 7 degrees of seperation--if I recall correctly, the average was something like 6.6?

Either way it just seems like a fun factoid to throw around...I would be interested to see the applications of this, ah, new knowledge.

Six Degrees of Separation.

While it seems like an odd concept, it is in many ways very plausible.

The idea that with asking a friend who asks another friend you could possibly contact someone in Peru(or anywhere in general) has been around for a long while.

While you probably couldn't use it in a way to talk to say, Keven Bacon, you can use it to see how far you could go depending on who you know and who they might know.

Its interesting to say the least, but usually its just for fun.

This is a theory that began roughly a century ago.

There have been real experiments done over a span of many, many years that support a similar figure.
