Determining Rank

Ok, so... One thing has been confusing me ever since Maple came to North America. How do people determine their rank in the server of their job? Do they click for a long time searching through the job ranks trying find their character and counting the amount of players higher than them?

Surely basing your rank off of what people say on a forum is highly unreliable and inaccurate, because most people don't visit MapleStory forums.

For JMS, there's a ranking system that shows the top 100 per job and per world. You can also add them together and get the top 100 of a certain job of a certain world. For instance, if you look up the top Pirates of Keyaki, you can see me at rank 37.

How is this done in GMS? I know a lot of people bull shiet about them being "rank blah blah blah of Bera," or whatever server.

Once you get to a high enough level, the community shrinks and people pretty much know who the other players of their job and level are.

I'm not talking about high ranks like rank 1 to 50. I'm talking about people who gloat about being the "top 180th Night Lord of Scania," or whatever.

Can't distinguish Night Lords and Shadowers, so they don't know.

Just guessing or inflating their own ego.

it's not hard to distinguish the top 20 or so of each job. most of the time if you really wanna know, you can just track em lol

For me the number of 150+ pirates on Bera is so small I can easily count and identify most of them. I'm somewhere at the bottom of the top 20 Corsairs.
