BGM Legal Usage
#1
For a commercial, I need to use some oriental sounds; and so I want to use the Kaede Castle music. However, it has to be totally within copyright laws.

If I were to use it in that, would it be within legal terms?

I think you have to ask Nexon/Wizet for legal rights to use it.

If you were to use a small soundbite (like 10 seconds) it probably wouldn't be. The full song would be copyrighted.

I believe you can use 30 seconds before copyrights apply.

Most places where I see soundbites of songs for sale are 15-30 seconds, so this may be correct. Not sure how it applies when you are using the soundbite for your own advertising purposes, however.

Using it for your own advertising purposes means you have to obtain the use of the product first since the BGM is owned by Nexon. If you were using it for, say, a quick movie - it would be within the realm of fair use.

You are asking a Maple Story forum for legal advice. Don't do that. Go see a lawyer who knows about copyright law.
