Dissidia

So, we all know Sarah's view, but what was everyone else's thoughts?

I see it as a very polished fighting system, with some strategic thinking (Do I keep attacking their bravery so they can't hurt me or do I whittle down their health? Do I wait for one massive strike or bombard them with weaker ones?). I LOVE Zidane's fighting style - I play Kirby in SSB, so that shouldn't be a surprise. Aerial characters are always my favorites in fighting games. I dislike his EXBurst, simply because button mashing annoys me. But that's a minor grief. I love his mix of close and long range skills too - I can get way up into the sky and spam his ranged BRV attack and keep my opponent dodging and blocking as long as I need to.

Played the Warrior of Light a bit, didn't like him as much, his close range stuff is pretty slow (though his shield throwing BRV attack is crazy fast).

I have to admit, despite my gripes, it's kept me playing. I got Cecil to level 100 last night and am just working on finishing up mastering his skills. I beat the main story and have done a couple others (WoL, Cloud, Firion (UGH FIRION IS FRUSTRATING!)) I'm trying to unlock the secret characters next but I really wish they had added Balthier because using a shotgun is <33333

I really like the card mode although I found with cecil's dark flame I can beat any battle by mashing square and never moving. It's helpful for AP/item farming though.

I think I'm mostly just playing it as something to do until Mario and Luigi RPG 3!!! next monday.

I actually love the air combat, but that's partly because I've been using Zidane primarily, and he's BUILT for it. I'm going to finish WoL next. Haven't unlocked card mode yet though.

Is Dissidia Square's attempt at a Super Smash Bros type game?

Not really. There aren't really any items, it's not really light hearted (except for Kefka, oh god Kefka). It's a standard fighting game, just happens to have all the FF characters in it. Something about a goddess and a demon gathering warriors from various dimensions/times to fight for the fate of the universe.

But...but...Master Hand is a sort of God who summons various characters from other "dimensions" to do battle.

I should get Dissidia this weekend. I didn't have the whole transportation thing worked out at college when it came out, so I couldn't get to a store to buy it (there's not a single game store and I'm at an institute of technology...). The Gamestop in the mall better have it =( I've probably put 2 or 3 hours into just the demo for the game o_O

Blergh. I'm having trouble grasping this power leveling thing. Help would be appreaciated if it can be given. Glitter

I love using cecil and tidus. Tidus's style is kinda fun once you get used to it.

Cecil, I admit, is a bit broken. Dark flame is cheap as hell. But fun to spam~

Power level: Wait till your bonus day. Play any Shade Impulse, if you got it. If not, get it by your bonus day. Chapter 4 works well, since you can gain many many levels from the final boss. I got 7 levels, 69 to 76,with 3x exp bonus and a chocobo thingy that gave +100% exp.

I use to play a lot of Terra, but spamming projectiles started getting old. Moved to Squall and I love him! He's got a good mix up of abilities. And gunblades are pretty sweet in general.

Agreed 100%. I first tried it out as Cloud, but his style is so slow..

I currently main as Squall, I don't regret that at all. Squall, for his size, is surprisingly fast! He has a mix of far-range attacks as well as close, and unlike Cloud's fire-elemental attacks, Squall casts his in an INSTANT, leaving less of an open space for a direct attack.

Squall's attacks are very effective against most characters in Dissidia, from personal experience. I've also played:

Zidane
Terra
Cloud
Sephiroth
Tidus (ugh, crap style lol)

I also uploaded some of my Dissidia videos, and posted them on SP.net a while back.

Shade impulse? What's that?

I like Tidus's style since he pretty much just flies around slashing crap at high speeds. Lewwwl.

Last 4 levels. Complete any story for a single character and it becomes available.

Sorry to double post but I have a question about messing with the calendar.

In some games you get penalized (pokemon) if you screw around with the system's date/time and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced any problems from trying this? Ideally, I'd like to keep it on my bonus day everyday (really just for the AP bonus, exp isn't tough to get) but I don't want it to cause some catastrophic data error where I am stuck with 99.9% forever.

Also Tidus is more annoying in this than he was in FFX. It's like they took all of the worst scenes from that game and used that for his story.

From what I've heard, you can exploit the bonus day on your calendar. However, what you do go change the date on your PSP to the next bonus day. DON'T change the bonus day in Dissidia because that just pushes it back a week. There isn't any negative consequences to this at all, except that it might interrupt the number of days played consecutively on your calendar. And your PSP calender will be really messed up after a while.

The story does make sense, sort of. It's a bit confusing at first because Cloud and Squall go in between groups, and the scenes are sometimes shown out of order in comparison to others. And the Chaos side being vague all the time doesn't help much either.

And apparently the hard-core play plan is better than the grind lover play plan for the most part. I can't explain it, but GameFAQs has all the math: http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/939394/57650.
