So, I was sitting in ch1 fm4 the other day, marveling that I actually got a spot there, and was so excited about getting monster crystals I disassembled off my hands. I had been holding on to them for a couple weeks, and was planning on selling them for 700k a pop (IMCs), but that was a no-go. I dropped it down to 500k, then 400k, and finally 200k. I still made a 20%ish profit, but it took nearly an entire day to sell just under 100 of them, so that got me wondering, wouldn't it be a lot easier if people set up shops in certain FMs for certain items?
Like, for example, let's say everyone on southperry got together and said "alright, everyone sell your maker items in ch13fm1", and then that idea spread to BM, then SW, then GF, etc. For the sake of argument, scrolls could be in another room (perhaps even split up into warrior scrolls in one room, mages in another, etc), equips in another set of rooms (split up like scrolls), etc. Just stuff like that.
Now, I know an idea like that would take a lot of people to pull off because just a few people doing it wouldn't work at all, but if a lot of people WERE doing it, do you think that'd be a good idea?

It's a good idea, but getting the word out would be difficult. Unless Nexon endorsed it and advertised it to the general maple public, it'd be difficult.
Also, I doubt most people specialize in one thing. Most people have a mixture of scrolls and you'd need to buy a ton of mush shops to be able to put them up around.
In theory, with multiple stores, yes. In practicality, not so much.

It actually has been taking shape in Windia fm. o-o
Fm1ch8 = HT/zak drops + pro stuff that are shown off for 2.1b
Fm1~4ch1 = Overpriced miscellaneous stuff
Fm18ch1 = Gacha scrolls mainly
But it only takes as much shape as that.
The whole concept about being a free market ruins that idea.
If, for example, you go into the 'organized' Mastery Book room but only has Shadow Shifter 20 to sell, what will you do with the Blue Neos Pants that also dropped from Pianus (used to be valuable before Maker)?
Then comes another example, if you went into said room but found no spot, while for some odd reason the 'most popular' scroll room has a vacant door spot, what would you do?
EDIT: I remember a time when vMS had to spread the word and persuade people to go in fm to do trades instead of the sewers near Lakelis. Convincing the less intelligent public free community is close to impossible, not to mention that it isn't easy to organize your own idea theoretically.

This sounds like a really great idea. I've always thought I'd be nice to have themed shopping areas in the FM to make browsing easier, but everyone just clusterf'ucks on channel 1 as always. I would really like for this plan to work out in the long run. I can already imagine some good examples, like for instance, you could devote an entire Free Market channel to ores, another for scrolls, equips, etc.
The only real problems I see is that it's sort of hard to specialize in one thing for some people, most people would rather sell whatever they have in one store and also it might be difficult to get the word out to everybody else to follow suit with this idea.

I would love for something like this to be done, but sadly I don't see it happening. Or at least, it'll take a longgggggggg time to catch on.

I would love for this to happen (i've wasted many hours searching the FM for something only to give up after searching all of ch1)
The only way i could see this happening is to abolish the current system and have something more like the mts. Have everyone pay a fee to put stuff up for sale, make every price viewable at once, and make it searchable.
Otherwise is see this as wasted effort as theres too many morons that'd either go against the tide just for shits and giggles or forget and inspire others to do the same. Heck i could see people reporting shops in the Monster crystal FM that have a spare shoe scroll and the player getting banned cause he wanted to get rid of a scroll too.

i think my previous statement may have been a tad sharpe, the only way this will happen is if we have the FM guilds abide by the rules of the system, also try and fit everything into 1 chnl i can see uproar over mages or sins getting fm 1-5 channle 7 or something, you would also have to do heaps of advertising on the major forums, sleepywood - basil ect, you would also have to pitch it in a way that made the normal MS players feel like this is the right thing to do. not to say the amount of cash to spend on SMegas and then you still have no way to inforce the rules, i can forsee 1 person doing what they want and the whole thing going to pomegranate.
so its a long road and i hope to see something like this in the future!
but like i said its been tryed before in bera we had most of the top guilds in on it but we still failed.

Only way this would work in GMS is if Nexon would change the whole free market system, so that only certain items can be placed in a store in certain rooms.
I doubt this will ever happen though. Especially since Nexon probably makes alot of money on the owl's of minerva. ;x

Although it would be nice for me, I can't be bothered to do that when selling my crap. So I don't see why anyone else should.

the way shops are set up now, it wouldn't work. i'm usually not selling one kind of thing.
if you want to see what fm should be, look at mts.

As said above, this is already kind of taking place in windia. At least as much as you could hope for in GMS anyway.
Also, the more dedicated merchanters have perma spots for various things and I imagine they make a decent profit off of them. There are shops that are always in the door spots of certain FM rooms that are always stocked with various odds and ends that people need only occasionally and would otherwise be a pain to find.
They're a pretty overpriced, but if for example you really just want to go for the 3rd job advancement, or get married right now you always know you can go to ch2 fm1 door spot and buy a star rock/ moon rock/ black crystal etc there.

Only took place because the main zhelm seller set his shop there so that buyers could buy and he could talk to them later. (lol one seller and like 20 buyers a day)
Then everyone started to try and profit off of it, because they knew buyers would go there to buy zhelms, but might as well just stop in other shops that are already set up.
Now everyone sells mastery books there.

And fm18 happened to be a gacha scroll gallery due to a group of people with this re-organization idea. Of course they only cover at most half the fm room, the rest are still bandwagoners who aim for personal profits, still, if you're in Windia and need a few dark scrolls, you'll know where to look first.

The idea sounds neat, but I'm the kind of person to wait to get a bunch of stuff and sell it one whole shop. It sounds impossible to hold together, too...
Kalovale, you just reminded me of the MStore for some reason in your first reply here. Ooh! I hate them! They waste two spots in FM 1, Ch 1 to show off one item each spot for 1,111,111,111 mesos. Trash merchant guilds.

So I need 1 shop for scrolls, 1 shop for equips, 1 shop for ETC?
How? :O

Yes, I'm aware of how this came about. And it isn't the best setup but it's as good as I think GMS is going to get. It gets stocked with more HT/ zak drops than any other room, and from my personal experience ch8 seems to have generally higher quality (Or rarer/ chaosed etc) equips than the other FM rooms too.

That really wouldnt work because everyone in the room is selling the same thing so you would all just undercut each other
I think all people should use all the CH1's before using other rooms. It's so much easier to shop when you just have to CC instead of running through all that spam between rooms.
Scania has people on every CH setup in FM1, I think the other servers should do the same

That would never work unless Nexon officially endorsed it and gave out prizes for complying or punishments for noncompliance. It would be very inconvenient for sellers, since not everybody has enough time, money, and stuff to sell to be able sell their things in seperate, item-specific shops. And not EVERYONE uses a Maplestory forum.
It sure would be convenient for buyers, though. But if you really wanted a specific item, there's always Basilmarket.
