one thing that seriously needs to be addressed is the fact that after tehmatt brought up that song much of this thread derailed to a religion debate on the pro-abortion side while he kept making points completely unrelated to said religious affiliation for 2 pages before you guys let it drop (if only half way).
xbish was right, and hazzy you as much as said it earlier (admitted it anyway), a zygote may not be a viable living being capable of concious thought, but it is, indeed a human. it has 46 chromosomes, and has every characteristic of making an adult human. nothing else can ever or will ever have those 46 chromosomes. attempting to change another type of life into a human by adding or removing chromosomes will not work, the cell will die. it IS a human, by all definition. denying it its humanity is apparently a common strain of thought when making it ok to abort a fetus/zygote/baby.
seriously though, one thing to point out here is that the moral high ground on this issue is unclear due to differences in ideology. i believe it is wrong on many levels, not the least of which, though lower on the list due to the fact i dont think it should get that far, are the methods. however i understand you may have a different view. debating this issue really is pointless as we will get nowhere.
i also believe that i should not force my beliefs on someone contemplating the issue because it is not my choice to make. however, i also believe that everyone considering one must be educated in not only the act of abortion, or what might happen if they keep the child (good and bad for both sides) but also methods of abortion and what actually happens to both the mother and the zygote/fetus/baby when it is performed. do remember that girls who have repeated abortions (as in those who do actually use it as a form of contraception, i know a few that do personally) will eventually become sterile. the resiliency of the female's body will determine how many/how long that takes, but it is the end result of nearly all forms of abortion en masse.
also, my uncle was a child of rape. and my grandmother told me several times that deciding to have him and raising him was one of the only things that kept her sane and able to go on from day to day after that event for years. this may not be the case in all situations, ive known girls who have had to have therapy for ppd for the same thing.
tl:dr education is key, knowledge is power(lame), and this debate will end in stale-mate
sp horse time now?
