Um, i sorta have this patcher problem...

Ok um how can i explain myself

please don't laugh at me or something.

It's starts out like this, i was going on my maple story and my patcher suddenly comes up, this isn't some kind of joke and also whenever i've tried to go report my problem to nexon, a p0rn site comes up instead....



anyone want to help me deal with this?
(btw, i can't play Maple Story anymore and yes i've did everything, and i mean everything)

It looks like a virus on your computer is routing the maplestory app to a different site than wherever Nexon hosts their servers. Fiel or someone with similar knowledge of programming and whatnot can probably help you.

My first reponse would have been someone modded your .exe file, but since you mentioned that attempting to go to the Nexon website results in being redirected...

If you REALLY did try everything, tell us what you did >_>

I assume you already scanned for suspicious programs and whatnot, so see if you can try to isolate the problem:

• Try accessing the Nexon website with a different computer under your local internet access. But do this after you shut down your computer that you usually use. It's possible this bug/virus thingie leaps through the network without your knowledge.
• Try accessing the Nexon website with multiple browsers.
  
• Try accessing the Nexon website after clearing your browser cache (for Firefox, it's under Tools > Options... > Privacy)
  
• Try doing the previous two after performing a system restore to a date where you KNOW this hasn't been happening. I dunno if you can, but do it in safe mode for extra safety, in case the "thing" tries to come back to you from the internet. Safe mode disables internet use.

ok so there's one thing that i had noticed, whenever i turn on my Hot Spot Shield, which hides my IP address, the nexon site was just normal. So next when i try to play my Maple Story once again. The start up window was just fine, but i couldn't play because I get this error saying something about my firewall thing and of course my shield is like a firewall too.
Next I try to first open up Maple Story with my shield on, then when it's about to load up, i turn off my shield at that point and then that same patcher comes up again. o.0

So i guess it has something to do with my IP address then.

Clear your hosts?

It's not the ip, it's just that using a proxy nullifies hosts. Just clear your hosts file to solve this one, but there might be extra parts to that virus.

Kajiti, I didn't expect this from a tech savvy like you. It's a known trick, you modify the hosts file in order to make local domain registrations.

I saw someone on basil complaining about exactly the same issue after downloading something from a hacking forum. But most of them are dead now anyway, so I doubt its the same file.

I would be very careful about logging into Maple now since you might still be keylogged. This sounds like the Meso Generator.

Well, networking isn't exactly my forte, plus my "tech savvy" that you've seen so far is completely home-brewed. I've had to do a lot of trouble-shooting for my parents because THEY aren't halfway decent with computers, and they tend to do screw up things that really shouldn't have to happen anyways. I only have my brothers to thank for getting me started with Java in the first place.

Also, other people such as Fiel and Devil's Sunrise could be considered "tech savvy", but does that mean they know every intermediate thing about computers? Maybe, maybe not. What I do know is that I'm a little bit better with image file formats than most "tech savvy" people I know.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a learning process for me, and perhaps for most other people too. It's not like I actively seek to ruin my computer with crazy h4x0r stuff like this, then try to fix it >_> Nor do I make these things since I believe it's a waste of time for both me and the victims.

That "meso generator" virus is still from the GG times, so even if they bypassed all the anti-keylogger checks it doesnt work anymore because we have HS now. He might get other accounts keylogged though.
