Join your last names. In fact, my last name is hyphenated.

It's just a bit funny since my first name is already hyphenated.

As for him taking on Nguyen...There's no reason not to, I suppose, but it seems very strange to me. Though Devin Nguyen doesn't sound too bad. Tongue
Wow, indecisive. >.>

Good luck with that first thing. Sad
Unless I'd be allowed to do the second thing, then sure! Otherwise, argh! *puts on boxing gloves*...

Nah, I still haven't settled this in my head. I asked some people, and not like I have a choice except to be passive in the matter, but that's stupid. As long as my opinion isn't Pineapple'ing ignored and I get a good word in, I guess I'm good.

I'm still liking the idea of a completely new name. Goggleemoticon.

Levi, Levi, Levi. You are a strange guy. How could you not know that a woman doesn't have to change her last name? Sure it would make things seem more "unified" and such, because I know where you are coming from. Basically everyone in my family, once they got married, had their name changed. And to be honest, I'd change mine, I honestly see nothing wrong with it. If I loved someone enough to obviously marry them, I would of course take their name. But good luck with your.. uh.. idea. I think that's what I was looking for. Haha.

I'd probably add my partner's name to my own. I'm not overly fond of my own surname but I'd like to add to it. If I had the choice I'd change to my mom's surname but when I mentioned that to my dad he said that "there'd be no one to pass the name on to". Even so, I don't plan to have kids TO pass the name on to. I guess it's personal preference, my uncle hyphenated his surname to add his (second) wife's surname, and has kept it even after divorcing. I'll probably go the same route, minus the divorce.

My future wife will be licking my balls before she tries meddling with my godlike last name. It's an Armenian, 12-letter-long last name that pretty much nobody can pronounce without my help, and I love it.

"GAAAR.. UH.. KAN.. IAN? IS THAT RIGHT?"

and then I look them straight in the eye like I'm about to f(ucking knife them and say "No, it's not".

It's Women's Lib. Because a large amount of America is very sensitive about their "individual rights," many people are profoundly offended by having to give up anything of themselves for the collective good. In this case, you either have the woman keep her own name, or have a hyphenated last name. While sometimes these issues can be reconciled with the compromises inherent in family life, a lot of the time such people simply get divorced, citing irreconcilable differences which to other people are just a bump in the pavement. The divorce rate in America is 50%, more than in other countries.

I think anyone has the legal right to change their name in court.People should have the right of having others identify them by the name that they want. Anyways I hate my name because I hate my fathers blood line and his personality and his grandparents attitude. I want to change my last name to a name found in the book The Hitch Hikers Guide to The Universe because it sounds simple and phonetically pleasing and unique. I choose not to tell you which name.

If you woman wants to associate with you and take your last name let her do so. If she doesn't, let her do so. I think all that blabber about women's right (and encouragement of keeping original last name) about last names is ridiculous, you can choose what you wish to be called.

Edit: TL;DR

A name to me is only a phonetic phrase that you should choose to be called your self.

You basically said everything that women's lib is saying about last names, why call it ridiculous? You're contradicting yousrelf.
