I just thought about something... - randompeep - 2009-02-02

Three of the four Twisted Guilds have the less/least-used class of its branch:
Firebrands- lolF/P
Nightshadows- Bandit
Windraiders- Xbowmen (though the Subi is weird...)

and it could be argued that Stormbreakers are Pallys (Lightning Charge), but they could just as easily be DKs.

Prolly doesn't amount to anything, but just my thoughts. Tongue

Stormcasters/Stormbreakers are a mix of all the warrior classes, mainly DK's since Lukan tells you they specialized in using Spears and Pole Arms.

Obviously because we're supposed to fight the classes to extinction.

On topic: I wonder what Nexon's gonna do about the pirate class. It kind of kills the whole four factions thing. Or maybe the anti-pirates fly into the keep on their flying anti-whale?

Also, Lukan carries a crushed skull =]

pirates didn't exist back then...

it was started by kyrin and her crew? who was a sister of athena pierce's ...? i think... *need clarification* and went away for a LONG time...

so it's not one of the jobs that existed in the older days of crimsonwood

There could have been a corrupt "Bosshunters Guild" equivalent, but clearly that doesn't exist. Probably because there wasn't an original grandmaster of that faction, so the art was lost after the war. So no pirates.

As is mentioned in some of the quests, there are several other guilds that existed in the keep: Antellion Guard, who took care of the Antellion (the relic which was likely responsible for Masteria's disappearance after Crimsonwood fell), and the bosshunters as you mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised to see counterparts of these two inside the keep.

Also, the key to the 4 Crimsonwood guilds is that they're mixed disciplines: While they have an influence of one class, they're all made up of attributes of two classes.
1. Firebrands (and by extension Flamekeepers) - Magic and Archers
2. Windraiders (Windreavers) - Archer and Thief
3. Nightshadow (ShadowKnight) - Thief and Warrior
4. Stormbreaker (Stormcaster) - Warrior and Magic

Ever wonder why it's a Flamekeeper Cordon, after an archer glove? This is why. The whole concept here is that everyone in Crimsonwood mastered 2 different classes.

I just thought about something... - randompeep - 2009-02-03

It just seemed interesting to me that of all the class extentions picked, 3 of them took the class branch that was less/ least taken. Take Firebrands. The Flamekeepers were not revealed before CWK I's release, so they could have learned Holy magic, or heck, even an Ice Arrow. Windraiders could have taken a bow, but I guess that looked too much like the Firebrands.

Wow. How dare you list only FP with the "lol" title. Tongue
FP aren't that bad.

And so I wonder why Pirates are still not in any of the stories of Maple.

Kyrin was Athena's adopted daughter. At least in gms.

~_~ I noticed that awhile ago....and if you actually read the quest in cwk

Off topic-ish :
I think some people are overlooking NLC's time travelers. Foxxwit, Elpam, and Lukan. It's not impossible for pirates to be put into the story, especially with a pirate skill like Time Leap. Also, I don't know if they say when exactly Testenon (Kyrin's father/1st pirate-Buccaneer) existed, so he might just have been around during the early days of CWK.

Close... first pirate was Testonen, Kyrin's father. And he was a buccaneer. But then again, even though you say there were no pirates, there were no BowMasters, Nightlords, Dark Knights, etc back then, there were Stormcasters, Windbreakers, Firebrands, and Shadowknights. So they could have easily been a sect that specialized in hand-to-hand/knuckle wearing combat, called something other then pirates.

I do doubt they could tie gunsingers in though, but they might. Just hard to say gun technology would stay the same for how many centuries? You cant really get more advanced melee weapons, just different metals and magic infused.

gun technology? "guns" have been around for hundreds of years (albeit not in a hand held fashion) since the creation of gunpowder by the chinese ( they used cannons and rockets which are only different forms of guns)

I'd love to see something using a skill similar to the octo summon like pushing one on wheels...

Please do tell me where it says Testonen was a buccaneer, I dont recall reading that, closest I read was he was a "mighty warrior".

And as I said before, Pirates will probably get their dues in another expansion of Masteria, but tacking them in to the Crimsonwood Keep story arc would be, well, tacky. They werent mentioned within the 5 major guilds (I know theres more than those 5), so I doubt they'd be a part of the keep.

I'm pretty sure the NPCs that describe his story mention he never used a weapon, only his fists to fight. Also, the MapleStory comics from the pirate promos show him using Demolition on the Black Magician's disciples. So... it's safe to assume he was a Buccaneer.

Yeah... but cannons are not guns. Guns are, by definition, a hand held cannon. And although they have been around for hundreds of years, guess what, they have changed. If old school CWK had even the very early styles of rifles, with the time that has passed, the gunslingers of today would be using a heck of a lot more developed, not looking like flintlock pistols. Ergo, the technology for guns would have changed... like i said in my post...

And deviant, it was said that Testonen was the first pirate, who used his bare fist to attack, and only his bare fist. Buccaneers can attack with just their bare fist. He probably didnt have a job description, other then pirate, because he was the first.

I just thought about something... - Takebacker - 2009-02-03

Something like this is what they would do for a gun, but a knuckle would make more sense. Maybe give them the windraider crossbow? It's one handed. Bullets doesn't make sense. Bullets are more for high tech areas.

I just thought about something... - y0y0y0y0shi0 - 2009-02-03

well, the whole thing of them branching off is probably the other way around, similar to how the languages were originated from one thing, but became another. Flamekeepers could have eventually evolved and changed into the F/Ps and Archers...etc.

(For you people that dont know, each language was really based off of one base language, which became some of the languages we know today. French/Spanish from Latin, English and the modernized German from German...etc.)

It was a joke. I do have a F/P, after all. :/

Hmm, it's funny when someone tries to correct someone who was originally correct, using only partially correct information, and then uses the phrase "by definition," when they are only aware of apparently one definition of the term.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Gun

Checking either of those links would show that, bored4ever86, was right.

Thus, as stated, guns have taken decades to evolve into what they are today, which still includes dozens of variants, from handguns, to rockets launchers.

As people have said, there are 5 main guilds, that we are aware of so far, and for this specific area. Nexon could work in another if they so choose, or fit pirates into those 5 somewhere. I still have yet to fully explore CWK, or to have taken the time to learn much about it, but as you can see by looking to the Next iTCG, they are working pirates into that soon, and my bet is, seeing as how most iTCG content has involved NLC/CWK, aside from the last set, involving El Nath, that this will mean Pirates having a role in CWK as well.

Though, from what I do know of CWK, it doesn't seem to have much to do with the current goings on in the rest of the Maple World, involving the Black Magician and what not. Correct me if I am wrong on that.

Only time will tell, and we should be having a CWK expansion in the next month or two, unless they delay it for w/e reason. So we'll see.
