The Content Testing (Tespia) Clarification - Combattente - 2009-01-25

Finally, after months and months of wondering WHY they closed Tespia and stopped opening Content Testing before every patch (well, I and many others had theories, but I just wanted to be sure), here's the OFFICIAL answer of NxJoeW to my question on WHY it was closed.

NxJoeW Wrote:Well, here's the deal with Tespia. When we opened it, our original thinking was that we'd be able to catch a lot more with the community involved and reporting things. So, typically, we'd get a few thousand reports. However, when we actually went through them individually, we got stuff like:

"OMG. I got selected."
"How do I become GM?"
"fix it"
"My ticket didn't get answered."

So, for every useful bug that we did get, we'd get around 40-50 bugs like above. So, we looked into it more, and found that only a handful of people were actually testing. So when you're dealing with thousands of potential reports, the return has to be enough for you to keep maintaining it. It takes manpower to maintain essentially 2 servers every test period, and the bottom-line is we didn't get enough legit reports for us to continue--at that point, we already knew that CWK would be experienced by everyone at once, so we made a decision to close it for the time being. Will it ever come back? Don't know for sure, but that's why its closed for now. Hope that clears things up.

Thank you, selfish people who partecipated to Tespia just to enjoy yourselves and didn't report bugs, thank you.

Well, at least now I can put my mind at peace. I just wanted to know the real reason because they closed it, nothing more. I'll miss Tespia, though.

i become GM nows? really, youd think theyed have some kind of age requirement along with this, or at least an IQ test befoe finalizing the acceptance X_X

I wonder how KMST works out so well.

The Content Testing (Tespia) Clarification - Combattente - 2009-01-25

Maybe Koreans are smarter?

When I was on Tespia I diligently reported all the bugs I found on my way.. and seeing that some people spammed bug reports like that and made Tespia close, makes me get mad..

We're idiots.

id be mad too, you were giving the opportunity to test things before most people got to try it out, but it was ruined due to immature people who got in along with you.

And i think it has something to do with a higher social moral/ethics in Korea/asian countries.

The Content Testing (Tespia) Clarification - Takebacker - 2009-01-25

Seeing as how no one bothered to test pickpocket in KMST, i'd say it's not much different over there.

They're somewhat...required to test over there because from what i see the stuff they put in there actually is a test to tweak certain things and fix bugs at the same time, whereas anything they put in our test server is more of a bug fixer so it "meshes well with the game".

Anyway. Holy pineapple. Screw you fags, ruining one of the best things to happen to GMS.

Edit: Where did you get this anyway?

Edit 2: Nevermind.

.. I knew it, curse the kids on GMS <,<

Yeah.. seriously. Everytime I watched a Tespia video on YouTube I always wished that Tespia came for GMS.. and I would've never thought that it could come. People said that GMS didn't need it, and in fact it was true. They had KMS Tespia, so why opening GMS Tespia?

But, one day, they wrote the announcement. Tespia came for GMS. I was so happy that it did, and I swore to myself that I would report all the bugs I found (and so did I).

Then, here's the end of GMS Tespia, and that's all thanks to some stupid selfish people that even ADMITTED (some guys on Sleepywood forums) that they wouldn't report bugs and that they would just enjoy themselves.

To those people: if you were smart enough, you could have done both things.

They have morons too, but I think there Tespia recruitment is different. I know you MUST have a character that is so old and past a certain level.

I though in KMS it was kinda like a resume.

I have to agree with you, however... I wasn't 'Bug Hunting' crazy. And if I did find a bug / glitch, I would of reported it.
So in my case, I didn't really come across any, and these "Selfish" people you find are the ones who's spamming useless tickets. Not the ones who enjoyed the test server.

In tespia, I'd say 95% wanted power and fame. Bossing, duping scrolls / item, making their "perfect" build character, getting NX and the list continues.
The only person I recall trying to look for bugs and glitches was IssacGS, and he did indeed find some - The Yeti / Hector boss spawned in Nath.
Even then I don't think he reported it because he wanted it to come out in GMS which leads to this whole selfishness thing again right?.

If Nexon had release this test server just for us to work for them (because they were too lazy to find bugs themselves) and not to enjoy the server, that would mean we've wasted our time. And we did pretty much, since it comes and goes.

So in conclusion:
The ones who reported idiotic comments were the ones who ruined Tespia. Not the ones who enjoyed it.

I hope that is right, because I can't see why majority of the people who didn't reported bugs (maybe because they didn't find any) would be called selfish because they played and didn't report anything.

Anyways, Chinese New Years tomorrow, let's have more friendly discussions Big Grin

If people didn't find any bugs and didn't report them there's nothing wrong with it. But if they actually FOUND them and didn't report them (remember that the main reason of Tespia was reporting bugs) for lazyness, I blame them for not doing it. If less people were lazy then the legit reports could've been more than the spam reports and NEXON probably wouldn't have closed Tespia like they did.

Again, I agree. But as far as I know, IssacGS is pretty hardworking collecting data from other versions of Maplestory. Though he didn't report the Yeti / Hector boss spawning in Nath - Possibly because only he knew about it.

I disagree, they had what, 3000 people minimum per round of testing? That's a huge player base that should have been able to weed out the majority of glitches, not to mention how much it would cost a company to hire 3000 people to do the same thing, US$6.55 for america I believe, even for a hundred people, for a week working 9am-6pm (from nexons Q&A, those are the nexon hours),1week with 9 hour days= over $40,000 in pay for those hundred people. Plus the maintenance costs of the server, letting your players do the testing for you is profit wise a much better idea, but obviously the majority of maple players aren't mature enough for test servers. Wow this just makes me so disappointed, I loved tespia =/ and I made sure to always test the right content and report any bugs I came accross. I hate that it was ruined for me by the idiot 12 year olds who play maple.

People just wanted to Zakum, and play with their skills and crap like that. I was there too, and that's all I ever saw, I swear I counted quite a few bugs I reported, and I found while I was on, that everyone was going through Zakum, and wanting to HT. Hell, I found some cases where I felt like I was reported bugs that only had to do with it being a Test Server, but I reported them anyways, I mean, obviously the skill thing everyone was messing with wasn't going to get into the main server, but I reported it anyway cause it'd detract from the test, like it did.

It was just lazyness, and stupidity. You can't say you tested the new stuff and found NO bugs. You just screwed around with skills and your level, that's it.

I mean crap, I found my self ss'ing spelling, and wording error and reporting those too, they are bugs themselves. If they did one for Magatia, I would have been quite busy doing that.

Anyways, all well, I enjoyed Tespia too, it is fun to be able to test stuff, but the thing is, even the bugs that were reported, didn't get fixed, so our jobs were kinda pointless if you ask me. It sucks though, that a few immature people ruin it for everyone by neglecting their responsibilities as testers, and yeah, it may be a game, but you did have a responsibility to make sure the game you play didn't get any major glitches brought into, or far fewer glitches than usual.

The Content Testing (Tespia) Clarification - Kirov - 2009-01-25

I got in the 3rd term and submitted a lot of bugs but I know most people just wanted to kill zakum and all the rubbish. I am not bothered Tespia closed. They didn’t fix most of the bugs reported anyway. But perhaps that is because they couldn’t be bothered to troll through all the stupid spam that idiots were sending them. I’m not surprised that the GMS community ruined Tespia at all.

The Content Testing (Tespia) Clarification - summer - 2009-01-25

this is GMS for ya...

instead of picking randoms, they should manually pick those who are actually WILLING to do proper tespia testing... or at least just have fun in tespia, and you're bound to find bugs... somewhere... instead of spamming the report system
