Installing a graphics card - Anything - 2009-01-04
So I'm planning on getting a new graphics card but I need to know the steps I would have to take to upgrade my integrated card to a graphics card. Would I have to disable my integrated card first(if so please give me steps ;D) or do I just install the my new graphics card without worrying about my integrated one?
Just to make sure, PCI Express 2.0 stuff is compatible with my PCI Express 1.0 slot right?

It might not be the best graphics card out there but I think it's great for its price.

While your monitor is still plugged into the monitor port of your integrated card, you have to go into BIOS to switch the video from onboard to PCI Express. I'm not being extremely specific, but you can probably figure it out. After that, plug your monitor into your new card, and you should be good to go.
And a 2.0 card will work with a 1.0 motherboard as far as I know.

So I basically just disable my integrated card in the BIOS and install my new graphics card normally?

In some motherboards, installing a PIC-E video card will cause the bios to automatically disable the on board video card. Things to make sure are:
-You have an available PCI-E slot
-Your power supply is sufficient enough to power your whole system with the video card installed
-Is it worth upgrading

Speaking of the power supply I have a question. If someone has a 300 watt power supply and a graphics card has the minimum requirement of 300 watt, would the power supply be able to run the graphics card?

It would power on I believe, but once you start playing those games, the computer will draw more power and the power supply will peak out(overload) and die.
