This should work regardless.

However, it should not be necessary, unless your version of maple is several patches out of date (or you don't have one, or you tampered with any of the files).

my original version was 125, but I had it patched up to 142, and since I prepatched it before the extention I'm afraid I wont' be able to run the gam when it opens Sad

They posted an update about the manual patcher at some point, implicitely encouraging people to use it then. This manual patcher was identical to the prepatch.
This leads me to believe that any changes made after that are in a separate mini-patch which will be applied to your game automatically when you start it up. (People who didn't pre-patch will get the 1GB patch automatically, and then when that's done the mini-patch will be applied to their client too).

If you started downloading the Manual Patcher before 11:00 PM Pacific on 12/4 and you ran it, that patcher has an error in it. Please download the v.143.2 .exe here, unzip the file, and overwrite the MapleStory.exe file currently in your MapleStory client folder.

If you have v.142 installed and haven't used the manual patcher but want to, you can download the fixed Manual Patcher here.

If you prefer to auto patch, you can launch your MapleStory client while the game is live.

woke up, apparently i went to sleep 20 minutes before the game came up, sigh...

and it worked for me it seems, so that's nice.
