Link

Quote:By the end of next year, all homes currently connected to the internet will be contacted by their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and asked whether they would like family filters disabled. The filter will be automatically enabled for new customers setting up broadband accounts or switching providers unless a request is made to disable it.

A customer that does not respond to their ISP will have filters installed automatically, blocking all access to pornography.

Criticisms

An absolutely ridiculous idea. Rather than making sex education in the UK actually decent or god forbid, actually talking to our children and working to keep them safe ourselves, lets instead impose restrictions on EVERYONE.

I'm quite sick of living in prudish England. We should be more liberal like the rest of Europe. No sex on tv, poor sex education and now this.

In unrelated English news, as of 4 hours ago our new Prince of Cambridge was born! that's exciting.

That's... not blocking... that's filtering. And you can ask to be excluded... so... no issue?

I can see it now Rolleyes

ISP: Sir do you want the filter off?
Sir: NO, I MUST HAVE MY PORNOGRAPHY, I mean uh, safe search is too restrictive!

There shouldn't be restrictions in the first place. It should be up to the people themselves what they look at on the internet and how they keep their children safe.

But nah, lets shelter kids even more.

On the other hand it's more convinient as parents don't have to specialize their firewalls if they choose to. It's not really a big deal at all, especially since parents are more concerned about children signing up for websites, credit cards, and/or virus'. Though with the most recent websites to spawn in the last 5 years it's really unlikely you'll hit most of those bumps with basic protection of course.

Websites and attacks appear at such an explosive rate that protection programs don't keep up well enough to do anything against anything considered recent, so i disagree. If you really want to f'uck a computer up it takes no time at all and nothing on the market can help you.

My point is that it shouldn't be a sweeping thing that effects everyone. Parents already have everything they need to protect their children on the internet.

While it is still peoples choice, it is a completely unnecessary measure to deal with something that doesn't need dealing with in this way.

But it doesn't affect everyone. It affects those who b'itch about restrictions, sure, but anyone who it doesn't actually applies to just turns it off and the ones it does apply to have one less thing to worry about.

How would you deal with it exactly? I really want to know how you would solve this in a way that doesn't "burden" everyone and isn't a solution that only involves "hey parents, step your s'hit up".

Also, you're completely ignoring porn at work situations.

I'm sorry Britain, you may think you can control pornography, but pornography will control YOU. I wonder how long it'll take for kids to find a way around the system.

I don't really like this idea. I don't think blocking pornography is a reasonable role of government in a free society. The government should be focused on more important things.

By websitse I mean that there are half a dozen (at least) of safe pornographic websites that are streaming/free. By no means am I saying virus' are no threat, just not as prominent as well, back in the early 2000's where they were RIDDLED with sh`it trying to f`uck you

Oh i was just talking about websites in general but yeah i know. Porn being a virus threat is no longer a real argument unless you actually don't know what you're doing on the internet and basically every kid over the age of like 14-15 does.

It isn't really blocking everyone, seems more like the press doing their thing.
It isn't a smart idea either, tough.

Errr...

Online Porn to be blocked in the UK - Niernen - 2013-07-22

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Have everything unfiltered/unblocked, and then if you want you could request to turn on family filters? Besides, we all know blocking all porn is impossible. Rolleyes

In other words: exactly as it is now. which is the main point of my argument. There is no reason to change it.

Is the blocking optional or not?

Loose Wrote:Is the blocking optional or not?
Not. everyone gets blocked, you have to opt in to be unblocked.

That's what optional means.
