Coping with "kids" - butterfλi - 2008-12-15 So how do you do it. All kids have the mentality of being self-centered, and in some cases, "brats". Psychologically, this is just a phase they go through because its a natural part of growing up. Being someone older, usually the older person has to be understanding of them and not just be really pissed off at them. So how do you tell a kid that what they're doing actually annoys people when you know that they don't have the mental capacity to understand other people's perspectives? Coping with "kids" - Five Second Pose - 2008-12-15 You sit them down, and explain to them, "Hey, you know, you're starting to bother some people with <insert behaviour here>. I think they would like it if you stopped. Would you like it if someone did <insert beheviour here> to you?" Coping with "kids" - Derimed - 2008-12-15 With kids you have to tell them "no." A kid will whine and do inappropriate things, and you have to teach them boundaries and respectable behavior. While it seems that telling your kid "no" all the time is somehow hurting them, you are really preventing him or her from getting spoiled, which would make them a worse human being in the long run. Coping with "kids" - Management - 2008-12-15 Show them what a consequence is....with the use of your palm. Coping with "kids" - Huey - 2008-12-15 I volunteered two years ago at a school for a teaching assistant position. Try not to resort to violence, but lecturing does help. Not a serious lecture though (Like where I blew up at one kid who was wasting water in the boy's bathroom, but that's another story.) There are some kids who pick it up quick, and some kids who take more time. You simply need patience. Even if the kid is repeating the act, you have to reprimand him every time he does it. You also can't have a soft heart either, or else they'll find ways to pry into your soft spots. But yeah, what Rayquazza said. Sit them down, one on one and talk to them. Ask them why they are doing so and so and tell them why it's wrong and such in a proper manner. Coping with "kids" - DrRusty - 2008-12-15 Go watch the dog whisperer with Cesar Milan. Calm Assertive is the way to go with wild animals, kids included. I tested it out on my annoying ass niece (she's 2). My mom spoils the fk out of her and now she won't listen to anybody. Whenever someone tells her "no" she smiles and looks at you while she does exactly what you told her not to do. Then my mom says "that's how all 2 year olds act". Ummmm no.... That's how all SPOILED 2 year olds act. Coping with "kids" - Horusmaster - 2008-12-16 I've never had any problem with kids other than my little brother and sister. I've volunteered at this private school before that involves handling kids, I just befriends with them, cause i'm only like 2 years older than them. We just chilled and never had any problems. Now i'm helping my comp sci teacher teaching gr 11 classes, for some reason they just look up to me as teacher although i'm only 1 year older than them. I started acting accordingly with my puppy and now she actually listens to me. It never occurred to me to use the same principles with kids (they tend to avoid me anyway, since I'm told I give off a very "unapproachable" vibe... :f6 I'll try it out at Christmas; my mom is hosting the family party and there will be a fair number of brats running around. Don't want them trashing the house.

Kids understand the basics of cause and effect especially on other people. You sometimes just have to remind them that their individual actions will effect others. And use words like friends or classmates when referring to those that they are effecting. Generally they will respond positively.
Coping with "kids" - xpimnoob - 2008-12-16 Get the kids to become smart and aware of their surroundings. I used to be one of those annoying idiots on the internet, but then I realized that the world isn't what I thought it was, then everything changes. It really depends what your dealing with kids for. If its for school reasons, make them realize that education is important. If its for food or something, tell them about unfortunate individuals in other parts of the world. Coping with "kids" - NoJobNoRules - 2008-12-21 Throws, I have no idea where that would come from. ![]() I read somewhere that a child's...<word here>...is developed by age 5. Personality, perhaps? I fear for that 2 year old. :X Anyways, what age are you dealing with? If you think you can get them to understand basic reasoning, then use it. If they're below that (mentality or age or both), then just say something to the tune of... 'Other people don't like what you are doing. You don't want to upset them, do you?' And, ideally, the kid won't say yes. <_____< Coping with "kids" - aznegglover - 2008-12-21 What if that "kid" is a freshman in high school ;_; God my brother is annoying Coping with "kids" - xpimnoob - 2008-12-21 aznegglover Wrote:What if that "kid" is a freshman in high school ;_; let him know how much life sucks in general, and he won't go around doing whatever he wants. |
