Can't access my HDD - maplefreak26 - 2013-02-26

When I open up My Computer, I can only see and access my SSD (which is my primary drive and is where Windows is installed at). I don't know how I would be able to access the HDD.

Otherwise, I think you'd need to format it for NTFS File-System.

I don't know how to format a drive without a drive letter.

Have you tried disabling it in Device Manager, then Re-enabling it?

EDIT: Do you also have them set to Master/Slave?

Yes and I'm not sure what you mean by master/slave. I don't see any option in doing so, the boot order is optical drive -> SSD -> HDD

Nevermind, Master/Slave dont exist in SATA.

Not sure, Somehow you have to partition that secondary drive.

Download smartmontools, open command prompt as an admin, then run smartctl -a /dev/sda to make sure the drive is healthy. If there are any bad sectors (look for pending, reallocated, and uncorrectable) then the drive may be failing. Is this a new drive or did this just start happening?

edit: you know where it is, right click and formating the drive doesnt work? in bios is your drive set to ACHI and not IDE mode by any chance?


edit 2: i will also note that 2tb drives and larger need to convert to GPT, which is one of the options you have.

It is set to IDE. (I just tried setting it to ACHI and it crashed my Windows upon startup)
I have converted it to GPT just now.

Simple fix, I'm so stupid.
You were supposed to right click on the black bar and click 'New Simple Volume'.
