Why speakeasy?

OT: What a waste of time. Even as a joke it seems like a waste of time.

Yeah it annoys me they require you to sign up for an account to sign, but signing up literally requires your name and an email address (don't have to click for email updates or anything), so at least it's pretty streamlined.

And it took all of a few minutes throwing it together, so I don't mind doing that and seeing what happens. Problem is, it needs 150 signatures before it's visible on the Open Petitions page, so that's where I'm even more looking for help. Just a quick moment from everyone would make it visible in a flash.

What am I really looking to do with this? Currently the most popular petition is the Texas secession one with 112,000+ signatures, and it would be really cool and hilarious to see this surpass it. Which would take a viral campaign but, hey, it's got 30 days.

So you're contesting stupidity with parodied mockery.

I see nothing wrong with this! Use the force!

I don't see why not Tongue

I'd be ashamed of myself if I made a petition like this and it got enough attention so that it forces the government or whoever to waste their time checking it to dismiss it. Be useful or gtfo, is what I'm trying to say.

More importantly why would one contribute to the smothering of real issues by adding further dross to the festering crap heap that's overtaken that site.

Damn it, you're so pro with words... that's what I've been trying to say in my two previous posts without achieving it.

You gotta post it on Reddit :3.

1. This petition would, again, need 150 signatures to actually become visible as an open petition. Which, given my lack of promotion since I nonchalantly gave it up seeing the negative response here, isn't going to happen.

2. Even if it did, this would do jack pomegranate because it would need 25,000 signatures by December 16th to merit an official response from the White House. Though many nerds would be behind this, that's not say there are 25,000 who would spend the time to actually sign up and sign, much less because of the counterarguments posted in this thread.

3. If, SOMEHOW, the petition made it to that threshold, I'd just contact someone at the White House and tell them they don't have to worry about a response, because in all honesty it's a joke meant to sarcastically critique the social idiocy that surrounds many of these petitions, namely the secession ones that are currently the most popular.

4. If they THEN still wanted/had to respond, maybe given public pressure for a petition that had grown so large, they'd only need to respond with the recent photo of Obama with McKayla Maroney, along with the caption "Obama does not approve," and they'd win the hearts of the internet by responding to a joke based in nerddom with a meme.

So five minutes of piecing together a simple press comment would be a huge PR win for the administration.

5. AND IF SOMEHOW ALL OF THAT FAILED, and the petition became a massive viral hit and I was being interviewed by the likes of The New York Times, HuffPo, etc., I would inform them of my reasoning behind the position and continue to emphasis that the Obama Administration would not have to issue a response because I'm not looking for one, as, again, it's just a humorous method of social criticism.

Want me to continue?

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about all of this is people like you, Eos, who have their self-righteous heads positioned so high above the clouds that they don't think beyond what they want to, while decreeing that they know everything and have already thought through every possibility and so if they deem something frivolous and stupid then by god's name it must be because they said so. In reality, I don't really care. I made this pomegranate as a joke, posted it half-seriously, depending on people's reactions, got less than 10 signatures, shrugged my shoulders, and satisfyingly accepted the few who did get a kick out of it. You didn't need to come in here, a Shenanigans thread (where it should have been all along - thanks whoever moved it), and take a serious arrogance piss all over a joke. Quite the site administrator who doesn't understand the sections of his own site.

Actually, what's more sad about this whole ordeal is that you're going to respond to this. You're either going to reply with a quote here, or go on a power trip and take a more drastic measure, either doing one of or a combination of the following: editing this post to remove this latter half, deleting this post entirely, closing this thread, temporarily or permanently banning me, whatever. And why? Because it's what you do when someone stands up to you and takes note of how you typically respond. Ultimately, it's almost sad you can't just leave something like this alone, because if you simply went on your way and ignored little posts like these from mere users like me, you'd make a stronger statement to the site by showing you don't waste your time on insignificant drama.

Eh, whatever. Please do what you'd like in the end, I've already wasted enough time here myself.

Word tho if I did that this could actually take off. But eh true confessions I don't have an account there so I probably don't have enough status recognition to get people to upvote it to the main page. Whatevs!
