Few things changed. Cant access John/jack Barricade (cant remember which) thats in Bigger Ben, and Spinal or whatever in Omega Sector was removed iirc.
Redeeming codes still work.

You can enter the bigger ben if you really want to and his capability of making stuff still exists.
Using a VIP rock works by going to the world map and simply double clicking on the map he's in.
Sadly spinel was removed as John above me said, so that means no more glimmer weapons.
