Warning for future GS - LordZoma - 2008-11-18
Before I start off the story, let me say that even though this may be pirate related, it's mostly account related, and I wanted to share it with the general. If however this is mostly a pirate thing, please move this thread to the pirate section
Today, I maxed out my wings skill and recoil shot, and I still had about 30 minutes until I had to go to school. I watched a video of a person that was able to get on top of the wooden shack thing in Henesys using the two skills, and wanted to try it as well. Once I got on top of it, A lot of people were amazed, and wanted to see me do it again, or give them mesos. I thought this was in a way pretty funny, so I sat down in a chair, and opened a card game saying Afk, leave a message. Well, when I come home, I find out that my account has been permanently banned for hacking.
I think I'm to blame a little, since for the most part your not suppose to get up there, but it's still very upsetting since I was playing on Demethos, so now I'm losing out on the 2x exp and I invested a lot of nx into him.
So here's the warning, don't do what I did, it'll get you banned...

Well, leaving your character on the top of a place where you could only come with hacking in the past isn't that smart. The only moments you should be on that shack is when there aren't that much people around and you shouldn't stay there for more than 1 minute straight, and if you want to be on it longer, you should just hop on and of every now and then. Going AFK outside of the CS isn't that smart anyway, since you'll never know what will happen when you're away.

Well, I'm sorry but how would a GM know the different between him hacking up there and him getting up their legitly, without seeing him get up there?

Well, a GM could have at least checked the class of the person that was up there. (I believe it's also possible for CBs to get up their by having a hacker fly up there, use a summoning bag, and then the CB can assaulter his/her way onto that shack.) If it was a GS or a CB, then perhaps the GM could suspect that it's due to skills, assuming GMs even know how game mechanics work.

Guys; if you were running a game, would you rather be thinking 'oh, he is of this class, and they can get up there if they try, but hackers also reside up there a lot, let's leave a certain class up there although that person may have hacked up there'
or will you think that everyone up there = possible hacker.

Yep pretty much. Just because he's a gunslinger doesn't automatically get him off the hook from being a hacker. Not accusing you of hacking though.
Also due to the class, Nexon should have just monitored the character instead of assuming it was a hacker right away. If it was say a warrior or something, then yea that's understandable.

But Nexon does let a lot of hackers just slide, when they're doing things that are far more OBVIOUSLY hacking. They should be tough on hackers, but they're usually pretty fail, so succeeding in this situation is absurd. Furthermore, before they PERMABAN a character whose situation might be legit, a better company would have looked into it/warned first. I don't think that there's anything wrong with using your skills to do something cool, even if it is something that hackers can also do. Nexon definitely should have known better.
On the plus side, I have been un-perma-banned when I pointed out their idiocy at one point before, so don't give up. ._.

Well, Nexon lets the most obvious hackers slide or give them temp bans (ie. the ones using summon hacks or FM AC-ers).
In this case he wasn't even hacking. Even if he did hack and get up there, does harmlessly sitting up there do anything to the game? The GM should have checked his class and given him the benefit of the doubt instead of permanently banning him. It's ridiculous that he got such a harsh punishment.

All those things are something which can't be helped, they aren't the user's fault.
Getting up there is by choice, maybe the GM which banned him didn't know Gunslingers could get up there legitly? If this is the case, the GM should be given a warning to only temp ban for a day for this, or something, because they shouldn't allow a class to do it because they can legitly, because people would abuse this in just making a gunslinger to hack up there.

And Nexon did say that they have 0 tolerance for hacking, and since the GM obviously thought it was hacking he promptly banned him permantly.

All of them are perfectly legit actions that could be mistaken for hacking by a GM who wasn't sure about what they were doing, just like getting on the Hene hut obviously is. We all choose to play this game. If you don't like how it's run, you're not forced to play. You can go quit at any time if you want.
Also, take note that when you signed up to the game, you signed over your account, Nexon can ban your account at any time, for any reason. In fact, in thereoy, you don't own your account. Nexon does, and you play on it.
