UPDATE: I did some more testing
It seems I must have glanced over a number somewhere.
The formula that correctly matches the actual numbers:
(Base+Gear+Empathy) * (1+%Gear+20%) = Ending HP or MP
For some reason, I kept applying Pirate's blessing twice, or removing it twice... hence my problems in my calculations.
