Have you ever seen someone with aracnophobia? It's not just being afraid, the person is unrationally scared for her life and goes in a panic state (possibly having difficulty to breath and crying) when they see their phobic object. I have a friend like that.

Guy is afraid of PIT BULLS. He saw one literally ripping his owner apart as a kid. The puppy part was to get near a harmless pitbull. And what's more harmless than a puppy? Still, quite excessive to be afraid of a puppy nontheless.

That's what a phobia is. An excessively irrational fear of something. You may KNOW that it's harmless, but the fear paralyzes you anyway.
