Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-09-23 Having just watched about 30 hours of JPs streaming it, I must say, 12 days is too long. The fact of the matter is, I wasn't even spoiling much of the plot in that entire 30 hours, because, at the end just before he went to bed, an NPC announced "NOW THE TUTORIAL IS OVER, TIME TO START THE GAME LOL". Not to mention that, even in that first part, there are at least 7 different branching paths (discovered so far, very likely many more) to arrive at that point. So, the guy who is about the leader in progress in the game who made a post on 2ch and said "I'm about 60 hours in, just hit the 1/4 mark" is probably spot on. It's been out for what, a week now? And nobody has beaten it, or is even close to beating it. Also, the stream I was watching had a high dex build, and YOUR MOVESET CHANGES DRASTICALLY based on your dex and poise. He was doing backflips, cartwheels and all sorts of ninja pomegranate, because he had set his Poise stat extremely low. He was dancing circles around everything, it made me cry tears of happy blood. I won't spoil any of the bosses, even though there are so many it probably wouldn't matter anyway, but, my god, they make Demon Souls' bosses look like sick jokes. Many times you are attacked by 2-3 False King Allant level bosses at once, with no NPC backup, AND a couple of them actually eat the souls of their comrades and go super mode when they are the last standing, leading to potentially impossible fights based on which ones you decided to kill first. Just before the stream guy went to bed, he reached the thing from the trailer that looks like the queen crystal lizard, that was the most incredibly one sided battle I've ever seen. EACH DAY FEELS LIKE MONTHS, WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME FROM SOFTWARE? Dark Souls - Capricorn - 2011-09-23 This hyped. Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-10-05 So, based on my first day (+night, technically) of playing this game, I can safely say I was being a bit too hard on those JP players for "sucking" in the streams for the past week. So far, the only thing I can say is, GODDAMN RABID DOGS, QUIT JUMPING AROUND LIKE THAT, YOU ARE NOT RABBITS. Dark Souls - KhainiWest - 2011-10-05 Isn't the difficulty of that game the worst in the world or something? Dark Souls - VirgilDiablo - 2011-10-05 KhainiWest Wrote:Isn't the difficulty of that game the worst in the world or something? it's not so much that it's extremely difficult, it just requires a different manner of thinking. it would be incredibly difficult if you were expected to clear the game without dying very much, but with every death, you learn, and eventually you've refined a strategy to get past that part, and the sense of satisfaction is overwhelming. a lot of people think it's one of the most masochistic games out there, but honestly i look at it as one of the most satisfying games i've ever played, it just goes about it in a different way from other games. i'm not saying it's not a hard game by any means, but there's a difference between ninja gaiden difficulty where you know what to do, execution is just a peach, and dark souls difficulty, where you just have to think outside the box to get past parts of the game. like skeletons for example. nowhere in the game does it say that your sword isn't gonna do pomegranate on a skeleton and that you need to use that mace you found a few rooms back, but it's gamer-intuitive that a blunt weapon is more effective on a skeleton than a sword. you just have to realize that little things like that make a big difference. Dark Souls - Corn - 2011-10-05 12 days? That's more time than I spent playing MW2. Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-10-06 Corn Wrote:12 days? That post was about the wait remaining until release. Currently ~25 hours in, still not even done with 1/4 of the first playthrough...I'm doing terribly, but at least I have an excuse in that I'm using a horrible weapon just because it feels so good to use. No other weapon in the game does it for me better than the Battle Axe, not even the WHIP. I thought the Whip would be my main weapon going into the game, as soon as I found it at least, but man, axe is fun; it can infinite combo (at least until you run out of stam), it has a decent sweeping range and doesn't recoil as badly as swords when it hits rock or metal, and dat backstab animation, a chop to the back of the legs then a decapitation hit, aw YEAH. I can't wait until I have enough STR for Great Axe/Dragon Axe, both of which are in my inventory, but that will probably be second playthrough for the latter, sadly. protip, THE DOGS GET WORSE. What the hell, they had to be smoking SOMETHING for a few of these enemies. Fire-breathing chihuahuas are just not cool, From, not cool. Decided to call it quits tonight after reaching the new boss, some huge flaming spider that vomits magma with a naked chick growing out of it's back that has a goddamn massive flaming sword. I made it to a waypoint just beforehand anyway, so that's probably a good point to sleep, the only thing that will lead to is 10 hours of me getting pissed off at the thing for constantly 1shotting me. Dark Souls - CrazyNomad - 2011-10-06 omg a game that takes more than 1 day to finish?!?!?!? playing it right now. Dark Souls - Capricorn - 2011-10-06 yeeeee got my preorder and artbook Shame I can't go through the artbook in detail for fears of spoilers. Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-10-07 CrazyNomad Wrote:omg a game that takes more than 1 day to finish?!?!?!? playing it right now.I'd say the full storyline completion (10 playthroughs, 5 if you just want to gain access to all the bosses, 10 if you want to finish with all the covenants) is about 300-400 hours, a lot more if you plan on multiple characters or pvping. Got my first invader yesterday in Blighttown, kicked that dude off a ladder for a thousand foot fall, felt good man. Dark Souls - CrazyNomad - 2011-10-07 ugh, why the good games are never released to PC .I dont have a xbox or PS3 , well downloading rage, 18gb to go :S
Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-10-11 Almost finished with first playthrough, finally. I thought the early areas of this game were troll areas. Then I got to later areas. And I thought THOSE were troll areas, until I got to endgame levels...who thought it was a good idea to make a map where you take constant armor durability damage no matter where you go, and then to fill it with monsters specifically designed to use that effect against you? WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA. At least those things don't respawn, but man, I used all the souls I gained from killing them on repairing. Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-10-14 NG+ makes first playthrough look weak. I'm stuck on Ornstein and Smough and I steamrolled them first playthrough solo...I can't even beat them with summons now ;_; I've gotten roughly 3/4 of the weapons in the game now at 120 hours in, and I gotta say, the weapon variety is much better than Demons Souls had. Almost all of the unique weapons have a unique heavy attack, a lot of the ARMORS have unique effects (including one that makes rolling at people do damage ), and even shields have special effects (one has a ranged attack, another has a superbody+500def 30 second activation). The unique weapons sometimes even have a second variant of heavy attack exclusive to 2 handing, and although the attacks use a ton of weapon dura, they also do incredibly stupid high damage. With +0 Dragon Great Axe's 2H R2 I smashed some poor guy 20 feet away for 90% of his life, straight off a cliff. +5 I'm sure I could break double that amount. Hopefully they patch some weapons though, at the moment stat scaling weapons are totally outclassed until level 300+ by lightning enchanted weapons. Also, playing with a Japanese host is about like playing a slideshow...sure is fun getting backstabbed with a SPELL (yes, that's impossible, but hey, lag does crazy things) from 10 screens away. Dark Souls - Born2BeMild - 2011-10-15 so, I missed out on the pre-quel, and am considering getting it, and this game. Dark Souls - Zelkova - 2011-10-16 I saw someone beat the game in 1:20. ^^;; Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-10-16 Zelkova Wrote:I saw someone beat the game in 1:20. ^^;;Drake Sword and Lightning Spear cheesing. I don't doubt it; I've seen someone beat the game at SL1 on a pyro in 3 hours. They need some serious balancing for pyro skills and especially lightning weapons. VirgilDiablo Wrote:dex scimitar user, elite knight armor + havel's ring = ROLL CHAMPION. who even needs a shield. maybe i'll put the iaito in the other hand.Dude, you need to get Dark Grain Ring. NINJA FLIPS EVERYWHERE. About double the distance of roll and about half the time for the full motion. It also gives you Demons Souls level roll i-frames. Couple that with 50% stam regen (either Child's Mask or Grass Crest Shield on your back while 2Hing), and Armor of Thorns set for the staggerlock on rolling, and you have an unkillable character against almost anything. If you really want to use a weapon in offhand, get parrying dagger, it has about 3-4x parry window increase, it's awesome. Dark Souls - Jerry-Boyle - 2011-10-26 Big supporter of Demon's Souls and now this game ![]() Pretty much done my first play-through already, just running around to get some upgrade materials and spells from Big Hat Logan then I'll destroy the final boss with ease(SL98). Then I'll optimize my PvP build/strategy/weapons. Looking to go all in END/VIT next play-through until satisfied. Then I'll get STR to 50(currently 40) then move to INT/Faith to increase the damage of my spells. Dark Souls - Flonne - 2011-10-26 PvP currently isn't worth it; too many people have hacked their way to max SL and too much broken scaling/weapons/spells, I would wait for the patch before doing that. I'm currently on NG+++ SL197, and Lightning weapons are still stronger than anything even though I have 50STR/50DEX. Glitches currently include: Moonlight Butterfly Shield scales with weapon attack, not INT, leading to retarded damage (1500 per hit long range) Greater Magic Shield is currently 30 second godmode, instead of just nullifying magic is nullifies EVERYTHING. Fog Ring. Enough said. Crystal Enchant from Logan in Dukes Archives, put on Stone Greatsword, makes its 2H R2 give you a ~30 second aura that does 300-400 damage per second to everything around you, as well as adding a Tranquil Walk of Peace effect to the aura. (Stone Greatsword 2H R2 is TWoP, but it doesn't move with you and it certainly doesn't do damage) Dragon Covenant. Just about everything about it; you can dupe with it, the fire breath is screwed up, the dragon eye summon is messed up too. There are a few other glitches but you get the idea, things are broken right now. Final boss is a fun fight. Not difficult since
Spoiler , but still fun.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Devs keep that glitch in there and IGN ruins this game LOL Those other glitches you listed though seem pretty damn brokenD: I prob ran into a few without realizing. Ring of Fog isn't much of an issue for me though..unless the area is really dark. Pretty bad for darkmoon covenant guys since Anor Londo becomes very dark when invading with the ring. |
