Wall Street Protests - holyforest - 2011-09-17

I don't have links right now, but I've just heard and seen videos of thousands of peaceful protesters occupying Wall Street for the last 9 and a half hours. I have never seen this before. It's being led by a group called occupywallstreet, and I believe they are still protesting against corporate dominance and the top 1%'s tax evasions right now even though it's dark. I've never seen anything like this before...

Hmmm, you'd think something this big would be all over the news. Surprised barely anybody's catching this.

Sorry, I ran out of the house to go get dinner and see a movie just after I posted this. Anyway, I was pretty shocked too on the lack of coverage, but there always seems to be less news coverage on weekends.

So uh, if this keeps up till Monday, what will happen? I'm really a person who bothers listening to this Wall-Street jibberish.

Apparently, the group wants to keep the protest going for the next few months, not just days.

Sorry I was at work and it wasn't letting me quote the video because my office computer causes the text box to glitch or something.

These things never get organized enough to actually accomplish anything.

Yes but, the police officers are treating them bad also. Double edged sword if anything.

Just wondering for what reason did they get arrested? Were they blocking a street or something similar to it?

Some of them were. Most of them probably weren't. Though it depends on context. Context is everything and you can't really judge them without it. Especially since a lot of things that can merit arresting someone are very subjective, like the risk of harming others or themselves can apply to standing on top of bench. At the same time, you also have to take this video with a grain of salt considering it's biased towards the protesters. Though, with something as big as "occupying" Wall Street, I doubt many main stream media will side with the protesters.

It reminds me a lot of the G20 protests in Canada earlier last year. Not to say that the police shouldn't be doing what they were doing, as anarchists would definitely take advantage.

They can't get organized. It's almost impossible. But that doesn't mean that they can't accomplish anything either. The Arab spring was very loosely organized, but the people in the Middle-East managed to topple regime after regime.

I just wish that they can get their message across, because it's a powerful one. Hard to do when every single media outlet isn't touching it, or barely touching upon it. It shows a lot about how much power Wall Street has over America.

I read about the protesters setting up tarp tents to keep from getting caught in the rain(also to keep their streaming equipment dry) the cops said it was loitering and asked them to leave.

Honestly, there was idiocy on both sides, there were some "protesters" there egging cops to do something. Then there is the cops that hurt the protesters.

They are calling out the upper classes for tax evasion, when half of America does not pay taxes? How is that logical?

They were saying it's basically tax evasion, a lot of them were mentioning all of those bailouts from awhile back, and basically the poor paying for the rich to stay afloat.
