Printer Fading - Tristan - 2011-09-15

Well I needed a printer for school and my sister had one that she never used that she got for free with her computer. She gave it to me and whenever I print something it comes out faded. I can barely read some of the lines. I took the ink-carts out and put them back in, same results. Tried reprinting 4 times, same results.

The printer is a Canon iP2702.

All help is appreciated! This printer is brand new, never used. Same goes with the paper and ink.

How long has it been since she received the printer and you started using it? Ink dries up over time which could cause the fading.

Few months... thats probably it.
I read online that it could be that the printer is in draft mode, but I have no clue how to check what "mode" it is in. It's probably the ink.

It's time to replace the ink.

Will edit in details soon.

EDIT: Or not...

But, I doubt the printer will be put in draft mode by default. Unless she changed around settings, it's most definitely the ink.

I think all Canon drivers have a tool to clean the printer's heads.

If it's still faded, yeah you choose:
- Buy new printer (35 dollar?) with ink cartridges inside + scanner feature
- Buy new ink cartridges for 20 dollar

And yes, printers are -that- cheap these days, and any decent brand (Canon, HP, Epson, etc) doesn't have bad quality anymore, even the cheapest printer = excellent these days. The only difference in higher priced models are only speed, photo printing quality, a3 printing, etc.
