It's only MapleStory Adventures, but still.

MapleStory Adventures Wrote:Monster Mastery System
A monster book has been added to track all your monster encounters. Each time you defeat a monster, the mastery level meter for that monster fills up. When the mastery level increases, more information about the monster is revealed. Once a monster has been slain enough times, it becomes tame and can be equipped like a pet!

I mean, it's not EXACTLY like it...but it's similar.

Seems close but could just be an addition to make that fb guy more interesting. Although I hope that is a sign that we're getting the familiar system.

Not everyone. I'd go around with a Lucida on my Wild Hunter and say it's my Jaguar's kitten or something. Or I'd go around with a Crow or one of those Cygnus birds so that I could have two birds following my Wild Hunter.

Oh and I'd get a Dawn Warrior's Soul from future Ereve for my Paladin (unless I remembered wrong and those aren't monsters that can be faught).

It sounds like Nexon America likes the idea, at least. As I said when GMS got the Monster Book update, that in itself opened up the gateway of GMS possibly getting Monster Familiar.

If we are getting monster familiar, I'm SO getting a pirate from Ereve, an android on a pirate hat, and me with MY hat... It can be glorious, my own pirate fleet.

Why are you a night lord again? Rolleyes
Anyways I'd most likely pick a thief from Ereve.

So does anyone want to explain what the deal is with this "Monster Familiar" and what it does? Or does it do what it "says on the tin"?

Monster Familiar was a JMS addition in where you can collect certain monsters and use them as your pets. They will also attack other monsters with you. It's like a summon, actually.

You collect monster card-looking cards called "Familiars" which can be excruciatingly rare for all but LOW level monsters. When you get one, it goes to your USE inventory where you can double click it and name your monster. The Monster Familiar is then stored in your Monster Book under the "Familiar" tab. When you go to the Familiar tab, you will immediately see a list of monsters you have collected. When you double click one of the monsters, you can summon them, much like a pet, but they have the ability to attack other monsters and they give special abilities, such as increasing STR/DEX/INT/LUK, increasing Speed/Jump, healing you and your party members, making you transparent, making your character glow a certain color, etc. When summoned, the monster you have out will have a red sphere above its head with "気" within it, indicating its vitality. As it attacks a monster or boss, its vitality goes down. When it goes down to 0, it goes back into your Familiar inventory in your Monster Book and you cannot summon it until a time has passed that allowed that monster to regain its vitality. You can, however, summon another Familiar during the time the other one's vitality is recovering.

Also, if GMS were to get this, it's possible that they could also release the two special professions JMS released. With the Tamer profession, you can summon up to 3 Monster Familiars at a time.
