ValvE vs EA - Corn - 2011-07-30 Steam has pulled Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2 from their service. EA claims that Valve has imposed a 'restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content' which is why they've been pulled. My guess is Steam have a policy whereby any DLC for a game distrubted on Steam must also be distributed through Steam and violation of this policy gets the game pulled. I can see where both sides are coming from in regards to this. Unfortunately it's likely to be the customers who ultimately get screwed over. Here's an interesting read on platform power games from a developer perspective which is really what this is. It's kind of like when they said BF3 will be delayed launch on steam because of issues with patchers. Valve has good, and apparently it isn't very convoluted. So that was lie #1. Plus, Valve has also stated how they feel about DLC: do you remember the skirmish between Valve and EA about free DLC? But ultimately, the reason they pulled it was a marketing strategy rather than anything. What they wanted to do, was have DLC be "ingame" rather than through steam directly. And finally, I don't think they'll crash and burn. At all. Gamers have already shown time and time again that few of them posses common sense and a perception of right and wrong, and that boycotting games crash and burn. Look at Starcraft 2. Completely on Blizzard's DDS, and it did not impact their sales at all. ValvE vs EA - Dusk - 2011-07-30 Corn Wrote:My bet is that EA will die in a ditch. Keep dreaming.
