AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - ChronosXIII - 2011-07-18 Wow, first time I've seen them censor one of their pictures and what a stupendous job they did. Someone stalk them and keep map crashing/disconnecting them, maybe it'll bring them into reality that the whole game right now is not doing as well as they believe. Edit: Aww, the Evan doesn't show up on rankings and the two results for the Dual Blade are definitely not the one pictured. AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Raul - 2011-07-18 Since this is only about 1/3 of the whole thing... ![]() In Team Mode, players will be separated into Red and Blue teams. The object is to defeat members of the opposing team. The team that defeats the most members of the opposing team is the winner! The collected team scores are shown next to the timer. Individual scores and rankings are shown in a window in the upper right. Each team members health is also displayed. Use this to assist one another. Each player is awarded Battle Points and Battle EXP based on their individual scores with a bonus for the winning team. Battle Mode Gameplay While fighting against other players, youll note a number of gameplay differences from normal PvE. There is no lasting negative to being killed in PvP. Within 3 seconds you will be revived in a safe area where you are free to reenter the battle. Consumable items such as potions and foods cannot be used. During the game though, special Battle Mode potions will randomly pop up on the battlefield. The effects of these items will begin as soon as a player picks them up. Every once in a while, the player with the highest score will be named Champion and a star will appear above his or her head. o Players who defeat the Champion in one minute or less will receive extra Battle EXP and Battle Points. o Champions who survive for more than one minute will also receive bonuses. o If the Champion is killed five times, he or she will be revived with a Rage buff that raises their Attack and Defense rating for two minutes. PvP Rewards Battle Experience Battle Experience Points are granted at the end of a PvP battle. Like regular experience, Battle Experience accumulates and periodically contributes to a rise in your Battle Rank. Battle Rank offers a variety of benefits and is completely separate from your characters level. Battle Points Battle Points are exchanged for Gallant Emblems through the BP Exchanger in Battle Square. You can use Gallant Emblems to purchase exclusive items from Larson, another NPC in Battle Square. These items include a variety of accessories as well as a Mystery Scroll that turns into a random scroll when you use it and a Mystery Recipe that turns into a random crafting recipe when you use it. Gallant Emblems are also used as ingredients for some crafting recipes. Battlefield Wisdom There are two important concepts to understand about MapleStory PvP as you get started: First, its voluntary, and second, you should expect the unexpected. Voluntary PvP Unlike other games that have so-called open PvP worlds, PvP in MapleStory is completely voluntary. The majority of Maple World is a PvE environment where players cannot attack one another, so theres never any need to worry about getting involved in PvP without warning. You can only start a PvP session by speaking with NPC Crawson. Expect the Unexpected Your first few PvP sessions may come as a bit of a shock if youre not used to this mode, but the most effective way to get acclimatized to PvP is to expect the unexpected. Fighting players is nothing like fighting monsters. Players will move in unpredictable patterns. If theyre damaged, they may retreat to heal up and attack again. They may be working with partners who will heal and support them. Players are just as smart and powerful as you are. If youre used to taking on monsters that get by with one or two attacks, it can be a little intimidating to face off against an enemy that has as many powers as you do and knows how to use them. PvP is faster than PvE. Very often the victor in a PvP match is the one who keeps the coolest head, uses their powers properly, and takes advantage of mistakes made by their opponent. Dont be surprised or discouraged if you lose your first few PvP matches. AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Satellite - 2011-07-19 I wonder if it will be time-restricted (like in kMS you can only enter at certain time of the day) AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Locked - 2011-07-19 ChronosXIII Wrote:Wow, first time I've seen them censor one of their pictures and what a stupendous job they did. It's true and false. True being that you can take part in a PvP battle in a separate area without having to worry about being PKed in any other area. False being... if you want to make awesome equips, you need to do PvP for the BP to convert to Gallant Emblems. Gawd, shoulderpads (or PAULDRONS, thanks to Nexon) will be so overpriced, and so many people will be wanting one. inb4 everyone's a nub. The recipes are so common it's crazy. AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Takebacker - 2011-07-19 The effort it takes to make them is obscene. It'll probably take me a week or two of moderate PvPing to get my pad. AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Sarah - 2011-07-19 iamflip Wrote:I lol'd. It's true and false. You're blurring the lines far too much. That's like saying "I need to play video games to have fun therefore it is involuntary/a necessity!" AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Kalovale - 2011-07-19 Sarah Wrote:It's still completely voluntary. If you want something that's your prerogative. That begs the line being drawn for voluntariness, though. Purely wanting to do something is voluntary, wanting to do it because of an ulterior motive may not be. In essence, not wanting something is equivalent to wanting the opposite of it, thus, nobody is forced to do things against their will. You may feel like the compulsion to be up to pars with one's peers is but a fickle desire, but that is really most there is to this game. People will be going crazy about CP. It'll be one of the most valuable things in maplestory. I really want to get my hands on some CP. AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Sarah - 2011-07-19 Kalovale Wrote:That begs the line being drawn for voluntariness, though. Wants are voluntary. Needs are not. No matter how much you want to be up to par with your peers, it's not something you ever need. Beyond that, there are means of getting the recipe without ever setting foot inside of PVP. You don't need to do it to get to level 200 (reaching the "end" of the game, by any game's standards) You don't need to do it to take part in any piece of the story (it is not a prerequisite for furthering the story or advancing within the confines of the game) You don't even need to do it to get the item you seek to stay on par with your peers, which on its own is a voluntary choice. It is completely voluntary. AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Yokuyin - 2011-07-19 Sarah Wrote:Wants are voluntary. Needs are not. Do whatever is fun, that's what games are about. AcornStory -- Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory! - Retalion - 2011-07-19 Takebacker Wrote:The effort it takes to make them is obscene. Short of hackers working their magic, that is. |
