I have trouble seeing if the familair actually attacks. So.. does it? To me it seems that it's just jumping around and Bahamut is only attacking.

Familiars do attack, but they have to be within a certain range of the character and monster to attack. Otherwise, it'll just move around awkwardy as if it doesn't have a brain.

Different Monster Familiars give different effects. Some give visual effects, others give stats like speed, jump, accuracy, avoid, STR, DEX, INT, LUK (no weapon or magic attack buffs, as far as I've seen so far and the STR/DEX/INT/LUK bonuses are not percent based and they give VERY LITTLE stat boosts most of the time), and some even give item and meso drop increases.

Apparently it doesn't have a brain either way since it doesn't know he's a ranged class.
