 Spoiler

What message board trends or habits do you find annoying? It could be message boards in general or even if it's specifically this forum.

Making a post as short as possible.
- This is especially annoying when the post is no more than a couple of words and provides very little use whether it be "No." or "Lol." It's even worse when the users go through the trouble of making hidden text or upload a very small blank image to bypass a character limit.

Bypassing curse word filters.
- I always find it a little funny whenever I find users swear (particularly on this forum) because they used extra effort to bypass the filter just so we can see the swear.

"Old."
- Always common and almost always unnecessary, especially when the news is only a few minutes or hours old.

Quitting Threads.
- Usually this is annoying, especially when users brag about how much better their life is just from taking a step outside of their house. It's also pretty funny when they brag about how they quit one game to play another game. There's also the common "I quit. I'll only log on every once in a while to chat with friends. Or to see new updates. Or check out some events. Maybe to train a little bit when I'm bored but not a lot. Or I'll just gain a few % a week. Ok guys I'm back."

Use the search function.
- A user makes a thread asking a question about something they don't know. Sometimes users respond by saying to use the search function. This isn't bad, except then the question is very simple and could easily be answered in addition to the search function note.

Grammar Nazis.
- Being annoyed when people use alternate caps, all caps or completely unique ways of spelling words like "wut up brah" is understandable. however getting openly pissed off and losing respect for someone simply for ignoring capitalization or punctuation is a bit much. its usually something that points to self esteem issues

I'm kind of a grammar nazi. I use good grammar but I don't really get mad when others don't. I do get mad when people are talk like this: "wassup. nm u. nm igot a 10atk wg 2day" Seriously, you can't take the time to spell out today? You had to put "2day?" The laziness of some people is unbelievable... I don't post on their topics and rage about it though...

i think trolling on message boards is annoying because its not very nice and can make other users angry which isnt a very nice thing to do

Posts with font modifications.
Posts with no content.
Multiple threads on the same subject.
People who complain about being warned when their posts were obvious.
Bickering over unimportant things.
Members that are condescending over the smallest of mistakes.
Ultra sensitive members.

If I'm really mad, I bypass the curse filter. I don't want my entire post turning into deliciously flavored fruit.

OP is an uptight grumpy gus who hates fun.

When i'm really raging mad, as occurred just recently with the whole DAB event nonsense, i'll bypass filter because I want it to be very clear just how angry I am. Otherwise I don't care at all.

This is the most annoying thing anyone can do on a forum.

"I'm unique!"

Nothing personal, Hanabira.

No.

But seriously though, just no.

The most disturbing thing in this thread is that you are even bothered by me using an extra keystroke to change pineapple into f'uck.

Or maybe it's that you expect other people to care.

The worst trend in most boards (and often times outside of them), I feel, is the sense of entitlement many people have when it comes to virtually anything. I used to see the word deserve on the internet so often that I thought it was going to be come the new irony with people insisting that other people didn't know what it meant to the point where the meaning of the word was actually just greatly diminished.

Quick note on the quitting threads, yeah those are kind of weird because its absurd that people think the average poster is interested in having such a pointless thread (hmm familiar), so get off basilmarket.

And on the search function thing, do you honestly see that here often enough to make 1/6th of a complain thread out of it? Cause i know if i saw it like once a day given how much i browse the site i still wouldn't.

What really annoys me though, is random complain threads with no rage in them and outside the angry dome.

Why is this thread here?

Annoying Message Board Trends - Loose - 2011-07-15

Anyways, like the first post, I really hate it when someone makes a thread to ask a question and others respond by telling the user to use the search function, telling them that's it's already been answered and to go search. The least they could do is post the link to where said question was answered.

I sometimes use the search function and I get sent to those kind of threads, it's a waste of time looking through a bunch of threads that have the same reply, "Use the search function". I'd rather solve it myself...

It sure is. Looks annoying, doesn't it?

Self-righteousness, like this:

Because you don't like it, the issue must be lying with other people.

Debates about politics and religion annoy me.

I actually don't mind them. I used to, but now if i'm not interested in the subject, I ignore it. If I am interested in the subject, I jump right in. Oftentimes I make a fool of myself but I count it a learning experience. I find it amusing when someone actually thinks that what they are saying will somehow change the ideas or opinions of the person they are talking to though, in such a discussion.

That's cool and all. I'm just saying that debates here get ... kinda angry sometimes.
