Ok so hi.

I have this problem, with sleeping. It seems that no matter how hard I try, my sleeping schedule always ends up with me sleeping like an owl. This problem has been ongoing since I was young, but not as extreme as it is now. When I was younger, say around 10 or 11, I wouldn't be able to fall asleep until around 12 or 1 on an average day. By my standards that's fairly late for someone at that age.

Now it's to the point where I can't get to sleep until around 8 or 9 in the morning. When school was going on I wouldn't get to sleep until about 4 or 5, sleep for an hour, wake up, go to school, come home and crash until about 9PM. Since it's summer I don't really have to worry about school, but no matter how much I try to correct my sleeping I always end up sleeping all day and living all night.

I've got more problems with sleep, such as not being able to stay asleep, and random noises that I apparently make, but that's not the core issue.

Does aonyone else have this issue?

Yes, sir. :o
In my vacations, my sleeping schedule is totally messed up. Usually, i can sleep from 12AM to 1AM everyday, in normal days, no matter how hard i try when i'm at school, unless i'm completely tired, i will sleep only by that time, when i have to wake up by early 7AM. What's the result? Being totally tired by afternoon, and only fulfilling the amount of sleep i must get on the weekend, when i go by 1PM.

In my vacations, i can do that easily on the first days, but once i stay for more time, and sleep in like 3AM, no matter how early i wake up, no matter how tired i get, i'll always sleep by that time. It's been pretty damn hard these days, because i don't want to sleep by 3AM, and i try to sleep by like 1AM, but god, i keep turning, changing positions, drawing, playing piano, i can do everything by that time, but i won't sleep earlier than what i've slept before.

It only solves when i'm at school, when my schedule goes from completely messed up, to a little weird. Sleep is something god dammit hard to deal with. @______@

I had the same issue. Mine was more related to my school/work schedule. I just had to force myself to say awake and I usually took a sleeping pill around 9pm to help. You can try that, but instead of a sleeping pill you can try Melatonin. It's a natural medicine you can get over the counter, and it's already something that your body makes to help regulate your sleep.

You're just gonna have to try to force yourself to not nap after school and to not stay up all night. I know... I'm the fun nazi =(

I had that problem once or twice. You'll basically have to stay up 24 hours and go to sleep at an appropriate time. Use caffeine, red bull, sugar, DO NOT EAT ANYTHING HEAVY OR DO MANUAL LABOR (you need to conserve as much energy as possible), and if you feel like your falling asleep, get up and walk around a bit, it's not much but once around the block should keep you up about an hour, give or take.

As for staying asleep, you'll have to trick yourself into falling right back to sleep after you wake up, don't move around or anything, close your eyes right away, get in a comfortable position and you should lull yourself back to sleep easily, eventually you'll just stay asleep (that's what I do anyway).

Hi.

Thanks for that link above.

And, I've tried to force myself to stay awake and what not. It's worked a few times, around exam time with school I really worked hard to getting sleeping right so I could sleep and try to study and not be whiped out for the exams. But, during summer when there's not pressure I just keep falling back into the schedule. I can keep a "normal" sleep schedule for about two or three days before falling back into my "usual" schedule.

And, about taking sleeping pills. I've tried them, and they do get me to fall asleep. However, when I take sleeping pills I can't seem to STAY asleep. I'll wake up 5+ times if I've taken a sleeping pill and then just eventually lay in bed thinking about random crap until it's time to wake up.

You don't have to force yourself to stay awake. Alter your dietary schedule. Eat at what would be a normal time for breakfast, waking up if you have to. Eat lunch at a normal time for lunch Dinner at a normal time for dinner. Snacking is ok with the one exception. Don't snack after the time you would like to normally be asleep. Do not snack any significant time after dinner this is vitally important. If you do this you should notice significant improvement or complete resolution inside of a week. If you still find yourself unable to sleep at a good time at night while doing this, consider a sleep aid.

Have you tried to go for a walk about 1-2 miles a day to make yourself feel tired before bedtime? By that I dont mean 1 hour before you go bed I mean at least one time before 7pm so your body will feel tired by the end of the day. If you just sit in your room infront of your comp your body wont become tired because its not moving at all. It usually works for me and I used to have sleeping problems aswell, however thats not only because I didnt feel tired it was mainly because of my tinnitus.
