NOTICE: I'm just sharing thoughts, making predictions. No confirmations, or rumors. Be respectful to my thoughts as I would be to yours.
As the title reads, I've made this thread to give some of you maybe a little hope in regards to the change happening in Chaos where Mastery Books will not be drops anymore. Instead, Post-Chaos: Secret Mastery Books will drop from monsters instead of Mastery Books specifically for the variety of jobs we have.
Many Maplers are suggesting that this may be more difficult for the 4th Job Maple population and maybe for the economy.
However! . . .
My predictions: Although Secret Mastery Books will be replaced instead of lots of different Mastery Books dropping from monsters, the drop rate may be higher! If you think about it, with the drop rate we already have for Mastery Books, it's not that easy as it is. However, if the rate stays the same, every job will spend days, or even weeks trying to find the Mastery Book they want. So it may be logical to suggest that the rate will be higher.
With that being said, all of the different Mastery Books will have the same EXACT amount of likelihood or chance to appear from the Secret Mastery Book. Clearly, it wouldn't make any sense to have Big Bang 30 have a 34% chance of coming from the Secret Mastery Book while Over Swing 30 is 55%. There's not reason for it. That shouldn't happen, and I say it wont. No job is better than the other; essentially what this update's 'goal' revolves around.
If all Mastery Books have the same chance of coming from the Secret Mastery Book, then they should all cost the same as well in the Free Market being sold by people. I'm saying this from a logical standpoint. I would really just not buy any Mastery Books if I saw Over Swing for 55m and Big Bang for 23m. If it's the same chance, it's the same price. Even though that's the way it should go, it probably wont because of the supply and demand (thanks for pointing it out raizoo & lozmaster). Majority of classes will focus a lot more on a certain skill, etc.
So yeah, this is just all I wanted to say. I'm not trying to be a smart ass, just sharing my ideas and trying to be helpful to anyone who needs some thoughts.
But anyhow, discuss!

For the love of everyones sanity, please don't start baseless rumours on drop rates increasing or decreasing. There is no proof one way or the other, and frankly, it would be more likely to think they won't change.

Totally disagree.
There's no reason for the drop rate of secret mastery books to be higher than the drop rate today. If, say, Blue Kents drop a book once in 100k kills now, they will continue to do so. Only difference is, no BM in their right mind would go kill 100k Kents knowing that even if a book drops, it's 99.5% probabilty that it won't be SE20.
Monsters people actually train on, the ones in Haunted House, Singapore, and LHC, do not drop any books today and will therefore not drop Secret Mastery Books in the future (or so I have read). Some people spend a few levels at Captains or DGPS, but that's hardly enough to supply everyone's book needs.
Farming for your own books will become impossible. The only books in FM will be those farmed by botters.
As for prices, the supply might be the same for all, but the demand is very different. Every bandwagonned pally wants Blast 20, but nobody wants Monster Magnet 20. Good luck insisting on buying the first for the price of the second.
In short, unless the drop rate increases a lot, and the books drop from all mobs, getting all your skills is going to be a lot more frustrating and expensive than it is today.

It's a cute idea until you realize not only is there supply and demand you have to think about, but....
People are greedy and want to profit profit profit profit.
Oh, and people would probably sell the mystery book itself in FM 'cause that's the safest way to profit. I think there's a lot more not as wanted skill books compared to ones that are really wanted, but I don't really want to go look. (๑╹ω╹๑

And yeah it's probably the safest way to profit out of the books. Considering someone desperate for their Mastery Book will just go for a Secret expecting their book..LOL.

The main problems with the new mystery system is basically A) Low level bosses such as Zakum, Pianus and Papulatus stopped dropping mastery books at decent rate in BB and B) HT will probably still be glitched. This leaves us at the mercy of farmers that "train" outside of LHC. The 30 or so levels normal players spend on regular monsters that drop books is not going to cut it. When I first heard of this new system I was under the impression that basically everything would start dropping the new books, but it seems that is not true, and if it is not, popular books will become very dang expensive. Remember that you will need to compete with hackers with 100s of billions of mesos for every book.

Nah, I don't think any of this is right. By all accounts, boss droprates are worse (HT drops 4-6 valuable books atm: will become a terrible book. So why hunt HT?) and nobody's going to hunt lower level monsters for particular books anymore.
And it's pretty ignorant to say that because all books are equally available (supply the same) that prices will balance out. The demand for a skill players don't max until 19x (say, Rush) is gonna be way, way lower than for a skill that players want to max at 12x (Triple Throw, Berserk, the stuff that's already expensive as pineapple)

The only way the books would be less expensive would be if CWKPQ's bonus started dropping the Secret Mastery Books also. And I imagine it will continue to drop the same books it always has, since it didn't stop dropping the books you need for quests after Big Bang came out.

That assumes that all Mastery Books have equal desirability. They don't. All classes want Maple Warrior 30, so its price will not be even.

CWKPQ is not nearly enough.
Now, if all the bosses that used to drop a lot of mastery books pre-BB (Griffey, Manon, Leviathan(?), Papulatus, Pianus, Zakum) started dropping Secret Mastery books at that rate, we would be ok. Anyone being diligent about Papping twice a day should have no difficulty either obtaining their own books or getting enough other books to sell/trade for the ones they need. Add a few zruns and you're gold. (With the 50 minute timer, increased demand for Zakum shouldn't become the total hell we had before LHC came out).
However, as CarrionCrow said, all those bosses drop squat now, and are unlikely to drop more after Chaos, so yeah, we'll all be at the mercy of botters. (And then, watch Nexon finally do something about them, resulting in pretty much no books to be found at all...)

Nexon isn't making this change to be nice to us, they are doing it for their own reasons; eg encourage more 2x drop card or gach sales, or maybe later cash shop books for all classes.

I don't understand the book bull pomegranate. It's tedius enough that one level only gives 3 sp, which could amount to up to 12 hours worth of investment to get it. Why the hell do I have to get "skill" books to show I'm rich enough to use a skill.

Anyone know if pre-existing and unused Mastery Books will be converted into Mystery Books when this is implemented? Not sure if the Mastery Books that come out of the Mystery Book will have different IDs or not. I just bought a Boomerang Step 20 book and I can't use it yet, I don't want it to turn into a Mystery Book. :c
I've never been a fan of the Mastery Book system, having quest chains to earn skills would be both more involving and ultimately more fun (beats grinding for hours to try and find something, or spending a ton of money and time in the FM...) but if the drop rate of these things is better than that of Mastery Books it might not be too bad. I doubt it'll be any different to the current system though. :|
In fact, it would be an even better idea if these Mystery Books contained some sort of filter to only allow certain jobs to get certain books (e.g. if you have a Marksman job ID, you'll only get Marksman Mastery Books from the Mystery Book). That'd clear up a lot of problems, and it would make the system much more user friendly.
