LulzSec reposted the list on Thursday afternoon.

"These are random assortments from a collection, so don't ask which site they're from or how old they are, because we have no idea," the group said. "We also can't confirm what percentage still work, but be creative or something."

The group also retweeted a few tweets by users who apparently had either taken advantage of or had been affected by the hack, including @MiracleJoe, who tweeted, "i am now an level 85 human warrior on mal'ganis server," apparently indicating that he had used a login name and password to gain access to a World of Warcraft account.

Users apparently used the usernames and passwords to change profile pictures on dating accounts to pictures of penises. One user complained that his Gmail username and password had been leaked, and that that had led to his Twitter, Hotmail and Facebook accounts being compromised. Other pictures posted also showed apparent evidence of Facebook accounts being hacked.

Gizmodo claimed that it had an automated script to check an email address against the database, to determine if that email address (and related passwords) had been publicly leaked.

A Google spokesman also said in an emailed statement that Gmail users whose usernames and passwords had been leaked had been notified. The site recommends users use strong passwords and take advantage of Gmail's two-factor authentication option, he said Thursday afternoon.

The site's authors also took time to respond to "aspiring lulzicians" via what they called "TwitterTimeoutThursday" via quotes like these: "Turtles have DDoS shells and so do we, so naturally turtles are our friends in the world of lizard-splitting Freemason intrusions."

LulzSec appears to be a rival group to Anonymous, the group that allegedly was behind the recent hacking attempt on Sony and its affiliates. However, LulzSec has been much more interested in attacking political targets like the FBI, the U.S. Senate Web site, and, reportedly, the CIA, where LulzSec crashed the agency's Web site. The group also created a dial-in number for suggested hacks, which was reportedly used as a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack of sorts against physical landlines.

As Sophos has noted before, LulzSec does not "appear to be motivated purely for the group's own entertainment." LulzSec apparently agrees. When it hacked into the Senate.gov database, the group said it was a "small, just-for-kicks release" of internal data.

Other recent targets include Bethesda Softworks and a porn site, Sony, Nintendo, and FBI affiliates.
