Internet Stopped Working Today - Hazzy - 2011-04-29

But it's only my computer. My mom's laptop -which I am using now- can connect fine via wireless. My computer is hard wired into the router as the modem and router sit next to it.

I tried connecting it to the modem directly - nothing.
I tried using each of my operating systems - Ubuntu11, LinuxMint 10, Debian, OSx10.6 and Windows 7 - and non of them can connect.
I tried running the diagnostics on Windows and OSx and they told me there was no ethernet cable plugged in, or a similar error.

This makes me believe that my ethernet port on my computer has died, but I really wouldn't know. Can Southperry offer any help?

Try a new cable, if not it's the ethernet port.

Try switching the ends of the cable. I mean, the end on the compy to the router and vice versa.

Then run a hardware checking program and see if your Ethernet port died.

Just ran to Best Buy and got a USB adapter to last me until I can have someone look at this. Didn't try swapping cable ends, but trying different cables didn't do anything.

Rob, do you know any hardware checking programs specifically?

Thanks, although I'm a little confused about how to see if my Ethernet port is dead. If it's dead, will it just show up as "No, you do not have this"? What would the device be called?

I'm guessing VirtualBox is dropbox or something, and the NETGEAR is probably the USB stick I'm using atm. Not sure about the first one....
