I'll definitely try those but I have no idea what half of them are. Google is my friend ![]() Thanks for the tips, are you certain this helps remove belly fat? I have a solid ab workout but I've heard ab workouts don't burn the fat in that area. I've heard that running and other cardio is really good. Ways to lose body fat? - Panacea - 2011-04-28 Fat targeting is a myth pretty much; you have to lose actual body fat in order to -truly- do anything. Mindlessly doing abs all day won't magically make the fat from your gut disappear, but will tone your body to make you -look- thinner. Do you have a recommended way of doing this? Ways to lose body fat? - Turtally - 2011-04-28 Eat 5 small meals a day. Snacks. Lots of protein. Lots of sleep. Lots of water. I also heard that a morning run + good breakfast kickstarts your metabolism really well. Ways to lose body fat? - Panacea - 2011-04-28 Anything I recommend wouldn't be very different from what was said here. Build muscle to increase your metabolism, have some cardio here and there, and you should see results. Ways to lose body fat? - >Pineapple - 2011-04-28 Turtally Wrote:Eat 5 small meals a day. Snacks. I don't have much fat to lose but I want to make my six pack-to be as visible as possible ![]() /vanity I'll try out the 5 meals a day. What kind of snacks do you recommend? Ugh.... I'm bad at getting a good amount of sleep. @panacea: I see, I guess I'll go for a jog whenever I have time and keep up the workout. Ways to lose body fat? - Fiel - 2011-04-28 Code: if caloriesIn > caloriesOut:There's no way around this. The way to make a six pack visible requires <10% bodyfat. Ways to lose body fat? - >Pineapple - 2011-04-28 disregard. Ways to lose body fat? - madanthony - 2011-04-28 Oh man, my old roommate could go for days about this. Lots of lean protein like chicken, turkey, fish, and egg whites. But you will need carbs after you exercise so your body doesn't go for your muscles. Proper, complex grains. My roommate once got into an argument with his mom on the phone about vegetables constituting carb intake. It was funny to listen to. 10-20 minutes of cardio before your strength training. You don't necessarily have to strength train daily. It's often a good idea to alternate days to give the body recovery time. Eating right, stretching, drinking water, generally healthy living, etc, etc. The hardest part will be sticking with whatever your plan is. Planks are beast. I'm so bad at plank. Snacks with protein. Would just eating less in general be helpful? Ex: I just got home from work/ school/ whatever and I'm a bit hungry, but not starving. Would putting off the meal and going for a jog around the block be wise? Ways to lose body fat? - FrozNlite - 2011-04-28 Ditto to everything already said, especially madanthony's above, but also adding "consistency" to the mix. Yes, sounds like the most obvious, brainheaded comment to make, but it's the magic glue that holds everything together and ensures results. I can go to the gym any day of the week and do a 500-800 calorie cardio swim workout, or my favorite 400 calorie burn on the elliptical/100 calorie burn on the rowing machine/ab and upper body workout, but if I don't do them day after day, like I haven't been for weeks, I remain where I've always been, like I am sitting here typing this out at 12:20 am right now. Oh, and this is just working out. I eat phenomenally every day but that, again, does jack pomegranate in terms of forward progress if there's no working out involved. I'm not taking steps back, per se, but I'm not going anywhere. tl;dr: Even if you eat well all the time, you still need to work out properly every day for weeks to attain results (what I've seen as the generally agreed upon average is three months before you'll see drastic changes, but then of course you need to keep doing the work to maintain them). Now technically working out every day isn't necessary, but at least 5 days a week, for an hour or more. Though that's on average; hearing that you have a crazy god metabolism already and simply want to chisel abs out of your already skinny stomach tells me you probably need to be in the gym 7 days a week. But please please please don't go crazy; I know people who started going to the gym 2-3 hours a day, 7 days a week, and brought their calorie intake down to 1500 a day, and dropped so much weight they nearly died. Such behavior can be diagnosed as an eating disorder, if not a behavioral disorder, so just always remember to have balance in what you do. Best of luck! >Pineapple' Wrote:Ex: I just got home from work/ school/ whatever and I'm a bit hungry, but not starving. This is EXACTLY what I mean by a bad mentality that will set you down the wrong path. Absolutely. not. The best option would be to have a small snack, like a handful of raw almonds (8-12), a glass of water, and maybe a piece of fruit, like a banana or something, if you're a bit hungry. A little bit of the right food actually kick-starts your metabolism, which is why, as madanthony said, a morning jog + a good breakfast = great start to your metabolism for the day, and so, in this case, you SHOULD eat something before you work out. Take maybe 30 minutes after you're done eating to digest a little, then go for a jog. The food + workout will keep your metabolism going, so then when you come home you can have your post-workout recovery snack (good options include a few slices of lean turkey breast, more raw almonds, water, of course, or even my personal favorite, an 8 oz glass of chocolate milk [has massive amounts of protein, check it out]) before continuing on with your day. Ultimate rule of thumb is to always eat when you're hungry, but never eat till you're full. You want to feel 80% full, never 100%, and you want to eat smaller meals throughout the day more frequently (as said earlier), as it helps keep your metabolism running strong. Ways to lose body fat? - Panacea - 2011-04-28 You don't need to diet to lose weight, merely changing your lifestyle will suffice. If you're hungry, don't just ignore it: Don't want a full meal? Eat a snack, like some fruit. I know if I'm not really hungry, but still just wanna munch on something, I have some grapes or apples on hand so I don't feel bad about mindlessly eating. I don't really have time to work out in the morning on school days so I'll have to schedule my jogs/ cardio just after school I suppose. Thanks especially for the clarification on the less-eating part. Ways to lose body fat? - madanthony - 2011-04-28 >Pineapple' Wrote:Would just eating less in general be helpful? Never, ever put off eating. Your body will start going after fat reserves for energy, but you sound like you're already at a decent weight, meaning muscle is next. Eat sensibly. Don't starve yourself. Don't go overboard more than one meal a week or so. The big reason for eating breakfast is not so much to "kick start your metabolism" as it is to prevent you from gorging at lunch. Eating is not the enemy. If you intend to exercise and are already hungry, I'd have a snack and proceed to exercise. I try to time major meals after exercising. I pretty much always cramp up if I go biking right after a meal. But that's me. Timing can go both ways. You need food to fuel a workout, but if you haven't digested decently, you can cramp up and have other discomfort. Eating within an hour of a workout can help with recovery. So it'll come down to a bit of personal preference and your schedule. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/HQ00594_D I'd google and check multiple sources for more advice or actually talk to some qualified in person. I'm not a very legitimate resource. Edit: Took me a while to make my response. FrozNlite has hit the nail on the head. Fitness has a lot of contradictory and constantly changing information, but keeping consistency and Fiel's pseudocode in mind are the two big things everyone can agree on. It might also be worth noting my old roommate did pick up an eating disorder or two in the process of his weight loss and his current muscle-building efforts. He's painfully obsessed with what he eats. He's disturbingly healthy. It is okay to treat yourself now and then. (Or a bit too often in my case) Ways to lose body fat? - >Pineapple - 2011-04-28 I'm ~130 pounds, about 5 foot 10 inches, 16 if that helps with information. I'll need to use a calculator or something to figure out my % body fat and then work accordingly to that. Already found plenty calculators for this via google searching. fffuuuuuu my dad just bought so much delicious candy from our trip to mexico recently too......
