RIO DE JANEIRO - A gunman fatally shot 12 people at a Rio de Janeiro school before killing himself, police said Thursday.
The incident apparently was unrelated to the citys gang violence.
A former student entered the school with a weapon. It is not known why he fired, said Colonel Ibis Pereira of Rio de Janeiros Military Police. He said at least 20 people were wounded in the attack.
Police exchanged gunfire with the assailant, who was carrying two guns and a suicide note, before he killed himself, another police official told local media.
The gunman told school officials he was there to make a speech, before opening fire on students, according to media reports.
Rios government has in recent months made considerable advances against drug gangs that control vast areas of the citys slum communities but crime remains a problem in the beachside tourist haven.
Authorities have stepped up slum pacification efforts that have created a permanent police presence in poor neighborhoods in hopes of tightening security in advance of the 2014 World Cup soccer championship and the 2016 Olympic Games.
Jeeze. It just happened a few hours ago. Poor children, their parents were in a terrible state when they heard about it. Some people even argued about the fact of the police shooting him, they said they had to arrest him and not shot, a typical example of the average human rights defenders.
It's interesting on how Human Rights only have to apply in such situations, while no one's been saying anything about human rights when talking about the families.
That guy is such an example of a total excuse of an human being.

Yea. People are saying the police shouldn't have shot the man, some are saying that although it needed a solution, a shot didn't do it. Jeeze. Some people say that he has done it because many years ago, he was a bullying victim on that school. Which is totally irrelevant to do this now and kill kids who have nothing to do with it.
I can't find the images of the school itself, or the exit of the school. People were saying that there were only kids with blood-soaked clothes running and hiding on people's houses while being in shock with the situation.

I missread the title as "Gundam kills 12 children..."
Anyways, that's horrific... There has been 2 school massacres in Finland, which both were all over the news, cause most Finnish who haven't lived during WWII think that nothing bad can ever happen here (well, after all we are not in political conflict with our neighbors, we never have earthquakes over 1.5-2magnitudes, no hurricanes, no volcanos, no tsunamis etc. so it's understandable.)

Indeed. I was at school by the time it happened, although i'm sorta far from the state it occurred, like half an hour after it happened, the information was spreading nationally, everybody was shocked in school, even some teachers stopped the class to talk about it and see what was happening from their computers and cellphones.

The boy you see laying down in that street is the only boy who died. The man only shot girls, strangely, he only wanted to kill them, since he shot other people in their arms, stomach, legs, when he was shooting girls in their heads.
The guy's completely crazy. And another thing, was that in March 31st, there was a post of a guy in a forum, saying that he'll kill a lot of people in the school he was bullied, and that it'll be on national news in a couple days. It actually became true. Jeeze :X

The another massacre happened almost exactly 1 year after the another and both times the shooters shot theirself after the murders and died due to their injuries later. After some investigation it was announced that both shooters had planned everything out in Battlefield multiplayer mode. They had also made videos where they threated for bloodshed in those schools.
Not just that but after both of those cases, some fcking retards all over Finland decided to give out fake threats and even my school was evacuated cause someone said that he had a bomb in the building.
If I remember right, it all started when there was school massacre in US. Due to mental sickness and Social exclusion, I can imagine that some people just get more inspired when ever these massacres happen.

While these gunmen are obviously using an extreme method of outlet that shouldn't be condoned, one thing I do wish is that people would start seriously questioning the "why", beyond blaming it on forms of media, or anything that isn't the parents or other kids, for that matter. The kid only went for fatal shots on females? Really? That totally doesn't stand out at all on a list of "why"s, am I right? Sigh.

Considering the favelas have military equipment... I don't think it's much too hard to get a pistol on the black market.
