...that you could always outlevel every trainer if you trained long enough and thus make every battle easy?
I remember playing blue and saphire and it wasn't too hard to outlevel my pokemons to easily beat the elite four and stuff without much trouble.

You get less EXP the higher level you are compared to the opposing Pokemon.

Not that it matters much, in b/w they give you a lucky egg less than halfway through the game making it retardedly easy to overlvl trainers.
