Building a laptop - worth it? - Kalovale - 2011-03-07

So yeah, I'm a cheapskate. I figured I could build a desktop of equal specs for 3/4th or less of the market price. Simple question: Can I do the same for a laptop and/or is it worth the efforts (a.k.a I have no idea what the f'uck I have to do, probably same ole' buy a chassis, get a mainboard that supports separate video card, RAM sticks, an SSD, all with hopefully corresponding bus rates, and somehow mesh them together.

Would the chassis, or the laptop case, idk terms, come with a pre-installed screen, or will I have to do that myself too?

Laptops would be pretty damn complicated to build yourself. You would have to have serious manufacturing background to even begin doing such a thing. o.o You've already expressed that you don't know what you're doing and while i'm all for cold turkey experimentation to develop your skill in something completely unknown...a project like this would take a lot of money and might result in failure. You're better off building a desktop.
