Game keeps crashing on character selection - Fius - 2011-02-27

Heyhey dear SP crew.

My little sister wants to get back to Maplestory after a couple years of break. She tried to update Maple last week, but the client was too old to patch, so we re-downloaded it. After the download was complete, we tried to start the game but it would always crash in character selection screen after entering PIC, same after pressing "OK" on creating new character.

So I thought something went wrong with the re-installation. Un-installed Maple, and tried again. Still the same thing. It doesn't matter if I use game launcher or try to start from the website. Also tried to run maple in compatibility mode, but a box pops up and says that Maple thinks that I'm trying to hack by doing this.

Now today I pulled the rest of the tricks that I know. Un-installed unneccessary programs, startup programs, checked anti virus, firewall, updated graphics drivers etc etc. But still no luck.

I'm running out of ideas, and I'd really want to play with my sister again since I visit my parent's only a couple times a month if even that. Any ideas what I could try to fix this? One last thing that I think it might be is the new anti virus that they use, AVG. I've never used it before on my computers so I don't know if it could interfere with the game. Firewall seems to be fine and all though.

Everything else works just perfectly on the computer.
