Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Horusmaster - 2008-09-29

I have a question about summoning dragon's damage, how is it being calculated? is there a formula to it's damage? does the dragon's dmg depend on your stats or level? and how much dmg does summoning dragon do at lvl 1, 15, and 30?

answers would be appreciated.

i'm just thinking of builds for 3rd job str cleric and might consider maxing dragon first to boost up damage

im pretty sure it uses the same magic formula as all magic attacks do. considering ifrit and elquiness uses that formula too.

Thanks for this, actually! I've been looking for a Magic-attack / Mage calculator for quite a while too. -is somewhat training a LUKless Cleric at the moment- [Image: wink.gif]

OMG, you just ruined my motive to train my str mage.
I was about to quit str mage when i find out that heal depends on INT, therefore i can only heal about 50hp when I max heal.

looking further towards 3rd job, the only skill i find useful is summoning dragon and doom. But summoning dragon is another useless skill for str mage cause it also depends on INT. Frown

On the other side, I just realized how strong summoning dragon is, I might consider maxing summoning dragon before shining ray on my luckless cleric.

Keep in mind that Summon Dragon only attacks 1 monster at a time, and attacks much slower then you would with Shining Ray.

Furthermore, it is the only skill the Cleric/Priest/Bishop has that requires summoning rocks. Doom and Door both require magic rocks. When you reach lvl 120 you'll get Bahamut, which doesn't require summoning rocks and is much more powerful, (you need lvl 15 dragon for Bahamut.) I personally maxed Dragon because it was either that or Doom, but to be honest I never once used it in combat, because I could not justify spending on summoning rocks which at 5k a pop would come straight out of my very limited potion money.

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - JezzaRules - 2008-10-02

Summon Dragon is only useful if you're too busy healing your party and you have an attacker (ie. dragon ) defending you. And yes it does have a set magic attack like Elquines and Ifrit.
If you plan to reach bishop ASAP, then you should put 15 on this skill. Otherwise max it.

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Thomas - 2008-10-04

I didn't plan to reach Bishop asap and I kept Summon Dragon at 15... You can do perfectly fine without Summon Dragon and you won't even miss it.
The fact that it only hits 1 monster at a time, at a not very fast rate for only mediocre damage isn't worth the 15 extra SP in my opinion, simply because it loses even more of it's use when you get even level 1 Bahamut.

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Bribery - 2008-10-04

I don't see what else there is to put that extra 15 SP into. If you want a higher leveled Door, take points out of Doom.

Most HT runners let Bishops use Summon Dragon at Horntail but not Bahamut. Summon Dragon also has the advantage of being neutral which is useful against bosses like Bigfoot, or future holy-immune bosses. Summon Dragon also has a longer range than Bahamut so it's good for bosses where you need to keep your distance.

Doom on the other hand is useless and really serves no training purposes.

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Chompy - 2008-10-04

I too am going the 30 Dragon route.
Neutral damage is just too important to ignore.
That and Baha-mutt will be pretty low on my list of stuff to dump into in 4th job.Glitter
...
Plus if you HIME alot- or any other Heal weak monster-
Dragon will help out a bit more.
---
I guess you could also go to non-heal weak monsters and do this too- but it would suck Rolleyes

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Horusmaster - 2008-10-05

yea the reason i said maxing dragon first is because i'm probably going to use heal as my main attack. heal+summoning dragon > SR.
and also spamming heal keeps the DK happy XD

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Goals - 2008-10-05

150 basic attack. Hmm, it should use the magic formula. *has it memorized*

The formula is: ((.005979 x magic)^2 + (.0359 x magic)) x magic attack of the spell

Stop spreading around the inaccurate formula =/

wait, so the formula is inaccurate?

if so is there any chance for my STR mage to do high dmg with dragon then?

Cyanne Wrote:Stop spreading around the inaccurate formula =/
All formulae are inaccurate to a degree. Even this one isn't THAT far off, assuming it's the one I think it is.

Horusmaster Wrote:if so is there any chance for my STR mage to do high dmg with dragon then?
Nope. Damage for Magician summons are calculated in the same way attacks are. The only way to do high damage with a Magician summon is to have a great deal of Magic. However, this is counterintuitive to the function of the nature of str "mages"; most Magic comes from base int. The best a str Magician could come up with- without sacrificing str for int- would be around 100 I think. Maybe a bit more if their weapon is a Black Umbrella.

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Cyanne - 2008-10-06

Well, this formula always gave me very inaccurate numbers for very high-damaging stuff... I found the more accurate formula extremely accurate anywhere I used it, other than that time I used the +700 magic potion, lol. It sucks how that potion only lasts 10 seconds, so it's not really practical for testing on the official server.

OMG thank you! i thought that my MA is going to be 20 forever, but i forgot weapons like umbrellas gives MA also. so 3rd job summoning dragon is still pretty good.

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Cyanne - 2008-10-06

I'm pretty sure your dragon's damage will still be dreadful since you'll only have like 100-120 magic.

Priests: Summoning Dragon questions - Horusmaster - 2008-10-06

about 800 dmg/ hit when maxed.

keep in mind that i will be hitting the monster while the dragon is attacking.

They all are. I want to phase out the 0.003365 as well if I manage to come up with something that stays accurate at 1500+ magic.
